So after years of telling myself I would read a Jane Austen book, I have finally started reading one ("Sense and Sensibility") and...

So far it's very slow-moving. I have been on this book for two months and I am only on page 46. I do enjoy the writing; it's clever and there are occasional amusing lines between the characters. However, its early 19th century prose makes the book hard to follow at times and, like I said earlier, the plot is quite slow.

I'll keep on trying with this book, but I don't know if I'll pick up another Jane Austen book any time soon. What are your opinions on Jane Austen and her work?

Decidedly, my least favourite 19C British novelist.
I don't think I've finished one yet.

I love Jane Austen and Sense and Sensibility in particular. I’ve read all of her novels multiple times. I also love Emma and Pride and Prejudice.

It sounds like she might not be your thing, though. If you don’t enjoy this book, you probably won’t enjoy the others because her writing style is pretty consistent. There’s nothing wrong with giving up on a book you’re not enjoying.
