Such a loaded question....I'll try to narrow it down to three

Roger Waters, solo artist/former Pink Floyd song writer
Thom Yorke, solo artist/still in Radiohead
Steve Wilson, solo artist/maybe still in Porcupine Tree

There is a theme of Alternative/Progressive artists there. They all write songs that are very alienation themed, which I suppose makes complete sense why they are my favorite.
