Sad, or happy, or anywhere in between, post any song that causes you to consume boxes of Kleenexes.

Since its right after Father's Day lets start with that theme.
A tale of a dysfunctional dad:

And a happy song about the opposite, but still...have a box of Kleenex at your side!

I'm not the emotional type, and this is the saddest I could think of:

Wind Beneath My Wings
Bette Midler

I can't get through it without breaking down.
It was my father / daughter dance at my wedding.
Every word is true about me and Dad.

To Where You Are
Josh Groban

This was my dad's funeral song, used in a video montage of his life.

O Holy Night
Celine Dion

My dad died on Christmas Eve so this song hurts.
I always cry at the end when she belts out the high notes.

Good choices.

The Bette Midler song is popular for father-daughter at weddings.

If I had gotten married while mom was still alive I might have picked this song by Boyz-II-Men for the mother-son dance.

I didn't know it was popular but that makes sense.
I got married just after it was released.
I don't think it had gained much traction yet.

He was always my hero.
Little did I know he'd later become a national hero.
There's a national monument for his heroism.

That's a lovely song for you and your mum.
My condolences that you lost her so young.

Another dysfunctional father song, makes me blub:

Oh, what's the matter?
Oh no. It's no better.
I've been thinking it out
And it still gets no better,
I'm here singing this out
And these thoughts get no fresher.

All in all I'd say things have turned out good,
You still don't smile at me
But then I never thought you would.
You don't waste time on praise.
Do you sir?
But you should be proud to be sure.

No sir. It's still no better
oh sir, I thought you meant better
Your experience will teach me no more lessons.
From lower down you just seemed so much better

All in all I'd say things have turned out good,
You still don't smile at me
But then I never thought you would.
You don't waste time on praise, when you could.
Or just tell me anything good.

Oh no look it's still no better.
No no these thoughts are no fresher.
You see tenderness is the asset here lacking,
But won't you join me in this one last wild waltz,
Just once again in the one last wild waltz.

Anduici tú mé san damsa fión
round and round, and round and round...

Baby Mine
Dumbo

This is for my babies during the custody fights with their dad.
It was so hard giving them away for weeks at a time.
They used to beg and cry to stay with me.

Little Mr. Roo
Pooh's Huffalump Movie (Carly Simon)

I took my son to this movie and he fell asleep in my arms.
He was about eight, so definitely growing up to be a big boy.

I lost her at the normal time in my life (only like six years ago). I just never got married. I am an aspie guy.

Yeah...a gf of my sister used the Bette Midler song for the dance with her dad even before I became a party dj.
And then when I did start to work for strangers at their weddings it was popular. There are quite a few father-daughter songs, and quite a few gender-neutral songs that either could use that folks often pick (like "wind"). Mother-son songs are kinda rare.

Me and my parrot used to dance to this song. She would whistle the "ooo" bits. It used to be a joyful thing but I can't listen to it any more.
