I can't do remixes.

I was working on a project to remix a song. This song is heard loud and clear in my head and has repeated itself so many times that I cannot remix it and make it with my own elements. Anyone else have this problem? I just tried and well, it sounds too much like the original. I will probably never do covers either.

I'd say start by breaking the song down into it's individual parts. Start with redoing the rhythm. Change the key of the melody. Add a harmony. I'm mostly a self-taught musician exept for some percussion, so I don't know how to explain it much better with words.

Hi. Self taught here too. I think I just felt overwhelmed trying to make it different. I made the drum beat for it, kept hearing the song in my head and just find it difficult to make it into something else. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the advice.
