Bob Dylan on the Spectrum?
I recently came across a debate where people were discussing whether or not Bob Dylan has a form of mild autism. If you know much about Bob Dylan, you'd know hes a very eccentric character. A lot of the debate was centered around this video (among other clips, but this was the one I found on Youtube):

Um...yeah, I think it's rather apparent he was on some kind of drug(s), but aside from that, would you guess he might be on the spectrum? He's finding patterns with the words and forming new statements with them very rapidly and getting noticeably very, very excited about this. And, Bob has always struck me as having a strange way of speech. Also, if you watch some of his press conferences and interviews he always seems very detached (except for periods where he is noticably drugged up...say 1966?).
Im sure that that isn't enough information to make much of an educated guess. I suppose Im looking for someone who knows a bit about Dylan, too. I was just interested in this. I love the man and see a lot of myself in his quirky-ness
I wouldn't be surprised but Bob is a very private man. He would never reveal if he has it or not. Bob was always very shy as a kid. His first public performance at his High School Talent Show was a shock and exciting moment for his classmates due to Bob's quiet nature. Bob has many traits associated with Asperger's but he would never admit that he has it.
If the move A Complete Unkown is correctly portrayed then yes he had autism to some degree.
I base this because too many scenarios supported this autism claim. At one point people were fighting in the audience of his show because of the chaos he instigated while managers tried to turn off his music and fought with the sound crew and even unplug his mic, all the while he just sung in the mic.
Also all if his relationships were only partial relationships and it nearly ended with him in a room with a man who couldn't talk. He used a different name early on, was beat up in a bar by supposed fans, made girls upset and broke hearts, showed up unannounced, drove his motor cycle by himself everywhere, everything pointed to sn isolated preferred life style to feel safe. He didn't understand the world but he was intrigued by it which vame out in his musical style and lyrics.
I found the movie very sad and dark for an acclaimed man who I enjoy. Two points it was dark because it's hard to write and produce a true movie when the star has autism. Also, whenever chaos and the loss of love is encountered, a mental or behavioral diagnosis is present because normal empathy is not found.
I like Bob Dylan just as much and long live his works. Glad to have seen him in concer. What a great musician and I'm glad to know him through his music. He's a true gem and I wish I had met him personally. He is a great example of how greatness can be achieved even when something maladaptive may be contributing to your emotions. Therapy tries to realign this emotional and behavioral misalignment. I wish Bob and everyone could get this help, as I did. But either way, long live Bobby, a true leader and Rennisance man for the ages.
Bob Dylan does a lot of stimming in interviews, like rocking back and forth with his body or rubbing his face with the hand. According to himself - his autobiography - social situations often makes him awkward. He is puzzled whith what people expect from him. While on tour 2009 a female police caught him taking a walk in the rain and started questioning him. From that she thought he was an autistic patient from a hospital. In one of his songs he says: "I'm easily hurt, I just don't show it." He has traits similar to autism.

I've never thought about this but it could possibly be an explanation for his "phases" over the years.
I'm a big Dylan fan so Ill take this opportunity to post some of my favorite of his songs.
