I just would like to know... What is your favorite band (or bands), and do you have a favorite song or two by them? If you want to, you can post why.

My favorite bands are:

Evanescence (My favorite songs are Bring Me To Life, Imaginary, Lithium, and Tourniquet)
Why? Because I like the darkness of the music, the powerful emotions, the poetic lyrics. Imaginary and Bring Me To Life have awesome lyrics, Lithium is very powerful, and I really think the guitarist did an awesome job in Tourniquet. Not to mention the fact that I currently have their song Sweet Sacrifice stuck in my head.

Nickelback (My favorite song is Far Away)
Why? I have no idea.

Killswitch Engage
-The end of Heartache, I bid farewell, Rose of Sharyn, Fixation on the Darkness, Eye of the Storm, Holy Diver, My Last Sernade.
There albums have helped me understand the broken heart im experiencing.

Trivium
-This World can't tear us apart, the rising, a gunshot to the head of tripedation. Well pretty much every song from their albums The Crusade and Ascendancy.
Great band live, songs have alot of depth to them, they have a little bit of old style thrash metal Metallica sound to them. They also do wicked Covers of Walk by Pantera and Master of Puppets by Metallica.

Authority Zero
We are the Bravery, Courage, No regrets. All there songs from the 12:34 album are good. There catchy songs but they have depth in the quitar playing, melodic voice and upbeat beats that are mellow and fun to fall asleep to.

I would have to say that this changes often; however, King Crimson is currently my favorite band, followed by Dream Theater; I also love U.K. I don't really have a favorite song at the moment, for there are too many to choose from. My favorite commercial song is either "You're fooling yourself" from Styx, or "Diary of the Madman", from Ozzy Osbourne. However, this changes as well too; but, let's say that these songs are among my favorites. I also love Awaken by Yes.

I have liked everything from Bach to Mr. Bungle over the years. My favorite composer seems to be either Chopin or Debussy. I love Rachmanninoff though, and other post romantic composers of that time period.

As for Jazz, I do have a favorite - Duke Ellington! His music crosses many bridges in Jazz, from Swing to Bebop.

Reggae - Of course Bob Marley.

Avant Garde...hmm...either Varese or Schoenburg.

I don't particularly like Pop music that much. Sorry. Yet, I do like Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys.

Rap - Busta Rhymes, Beastie Boys, and Little John.

I think that is thorough enough for now, without me boring the *&^% out of the reader. Thanks for reading this.

Blondie - "11:59", "Heart of Glass"
Eurythmics - "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", "Here Comes the Rain Again"
A Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran (So Far Away)", "Space Age Love Song"
Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Pale Shelter", "Laid So Low (Tears Roll Down)", "I Believe", "Advice for the Young at Heart"
Wang Chung - "Fire in the Twilight"

Nice topic.

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN

My favourite band ever. Their music is haunting, mysterious, unlike anything else I have heard before. The lyrics are very poetic and often I recognise myself in them. The artwork of the band is also very mysterious and fits the music perfectly.

Best songs: Ocean Rain, Nocturnal me, I'll fly tonight, Empire State halo, Too young to kneel, Rust, Crocodiles, Villiers terrace, With a hip, All my colours, Porcupine, The cutter, Bring on the dancing horses

PLACEBO

I love Brian Molko's voice, the interesting lyrics and the overall sound of the band.

best songs: Nancy boy, Pure morning, Without you I'm nothing, Burger queen francais, Slave to the wage, Special K, Black-eyed, Allergic, Blue American, Special needs, Plasticine, Song to say goodbye, Leni

THE SMITHS

Best songs: Bela Lugosi's dead, The passion of lovers, In the flat field, Hollow hills, All we ever wanted, Double dare, Ziggy stardust, Telegram Sam, Dark entries, St Vitus Dance

A PERFECT CIRCLE

I love the ethereal sounds, the guitar riffs, the charisma of frontman Maynard James Keenan, the poetic intelligent lyrics ...

Best songs: Brena, The Hollow, Three Libras, Magdalena, Orestes, Passive

MANIC STREET PREACHERS

Extremely meaningful lyrics that are always interesting to analyse. Highly recommended for people that like music with a strong political and left-wing undertone.

Best songs: The masses against the classes, A design for life, Motorcycle emptiness, La tristesse durera, Tsunami, Door to the river, Everything must go, If you tolerate this..., Faster, Autumn song, 1985, The everlasting

Best songs: Hysteria, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Newborn, Sunburn, Stockholm Syndrome, Starlight, Take a bow, Invincable

SILKE BISCHOFF / 18 SUMMERS

One of the darkest and most haunting of all gothic bands. Especially their first two albums are pure darkness.

Surprised you did not mention My Immortal. Those vocals are so powerful especially in the version without electric guitars being used. Very good vocals as well.

Evanescence are good. I love Amy Lee

Gary Numan (apparently a self-diagnosed Aspie):

Are 'Friends' Electric?, Cars, We Are Glass, I Die You Die, Love Needs No Disguise, We Take Mystery, My Dying Machine, Warriors, I Can't Stop, Pure.

Tears For Fears (angst city) particularly first album 'The Hurting'. Also check out vocalist Roland Orzabal's solo album; 'Tomcats Screaming Outside.'

Nightwish (not entirely sure about the new vocalist mind):

Dark Chest Of Wonders, Nemo, Gethsemane, Passion & The Opera, Wish I Had An Angel, Ghost Love Score.

Killing Joke, particularly the albums; 'Brighter Than A Thousand Suns', 'Outside The Gate', 'Pandemonium' And Killing Joke 2005.

Honourable mentions also for Talk Talk, Pet Shop Boys, Shriekback, Depeche Mode, Sisters Of Mercy, Ultravox and early Marillion.

My Immortal is awesome. But I didn't want to post too many favorites. If I wanted to post more... Which I do now... I'd post a list more like this:

Bring Me To Life, Imaginary, Lithium, Tourniquet, My Immortal, Sweet Sacrifice, Breathe No More, Lacrymosa, Going Under, Whisper, Missing, and Hello.

...Bring Me To Life has more than 110 plays on my iPod. And I just put it on slightly over a month ago.

My all-time favorite band is Garbage. Right now I'm listening to their cover of "Butterfly Collector" over and over again like a lunatic, but some of my other favorites of theirs are "Queer," "Hammering In My Head," and "Bad Boyfriend."
Other than that... always changing

Bleeding Through
-Marta's Keyboard playing gives the orange county hardcore band's songs a haunting feel to them.
Line in the Sand is my fav. song. very melodic with a slowed down beat. love the way the mounted toms are tuned for the fill near the beginning of the song.

Nice that you mention Talk Talk by the way. They seem to be completely forgotten despite their good music, few people seem to still know them. Such a shame... :) I love Mark Hollis' voice.

I've been listening to "Since I Left You" by the Avalanches since it came out in 2001.

Curse Aspergers for preventing me from listening to other albums!

I really appreciate this post because it's laid out so well (haha, but it's true) and you really wrote the feel of the music:

The Avalanches made a pretty sweet remix of "So Why So Sad" by Manic Street Preachers. Highly recommended.
