Idea for a story; need suggestions.
I'm not a huge animee fan, but occasionally I will watch an animee movie and it will inspire an idea for a story. I am envisioning an alternative world in which a person's physical appearance actually corresponds with their inner character. In this world how attractive a person is depends on how kind and honest they are. I am envisioning a scene in a restaurant where a woman goes into the restroom to check her reflection while out to dinner on a date and realizes that she hasn't been very nice lately and she is starting to fade beauty wise. She then rushes out of the back door in search of someone in need and throws money at a bum on the street. In this world if a person tries to make themselves look beautiful by artificial mean it stays on for a mere fifteen seconds and then fades away. Lately I have been having the problem that an idea comes into my head for a story and then somehow I can't manage to develop the idea into a complete story. So any ideas on developing this idea would be much appreciated. I think my creative side is starting to come back now that I'm not struggling so hard to pretend to be an NT anymore.

Oh, I agree completely! I have to retire from 'pretending to be NT' almost completely to be able to 'write' at all! Saps your energy, it does!
so if I might make a suggestion, Oscar Wilde wrote ""How sad it is! I shall grow old, and horrible, and dreadful. But this picture will remain always young. It will never be older than this particular day of June... If it were only the other way! If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old! For that-for that-I would give everything! Yes, there is nothing in the whole world I would not give! I would give my soul for that!"
- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray Ch. 2
it might be good research for your story, AStar. . .

There could be an irony here. The people who treasure beauty the most and go after it by being good in contrived ways have the hardest times staying beautiful. While the people who don't care about beauty and are just good because being good feels right are the most beautiful but beauty isn't important to them.
The good people might even try to look ugly because they don't want the contrived people to feel bad.
I add to stories I make up when I'm trying to sleep. It helps distract me from the anxiety of the day.

It's a pretty smart idea, and I do like it. However beauty is subjective, and what qualifies as 'nice' and all that...this is no utopia, this is a total dystopia. It's a police state. Do something wrong and you'll end up butt ugly, so everyone better be nice. It's like having a gun pointed at you 24/7.
So... if you go against the government would you be ugly? Like rebellious people who want to fix the dysfunctional system- would they be considered bad and then turn ugly?
Mayby ugliness appreciation could be a part of a rebellion against the status quo? Maybe parents get upset because their kids think ugliness is cool?
