This is what I wrote in a similar thread:

Country-Goth-Rock is my home, but Punk Rock is my yard, Hardcore is my garage, and Metal is my treehouse. The property is on Rock and Roll Ave, at the intersection with Country Ln and Blues Blvd.

I'm not really into genra's so much as individual musicians. In almost every genre I find songs/artists I like and songs/artists I don't like. I guess most stuff I like falls into the "indie rock" category. I wouldn't say I'm an indie rock fan though because there's as much stuff in that category that I don't like as there is that I like.

I like Old school Heavy Metal music, Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, Punk, Classical. The other 4, even though I'm not much of a fan of those genres, I can tolerate them. But I can't tolerate Rap, Country, and Pop because they're annoying.

I'll listen to Mostly Rap/hip hop. Then some r&b music but not as much as rap. And a few rock/pop songs that come along here and there.

Most favourite: Metal (Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy...)

I can happily listen to plenty of other kinds of music (rock & pop, progressive, classical, electronica) but I almost always choose to listen to metal.

Some of these are a little hard to define so it's hard to pin them down. So please don't correct me on any genres...

Advant-Gard Metal (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Diablo Swing Orchestra, etc.)

Alternative/kinda indie (The Red Paintings, The Dresden Dolls, Blonde Redhead....)

Alternative Metal (A Perfect Circle, Deftones, SlipKnot, Mushroomhead, Dir en grey...)

GothIC rock (not the same as goth rock--goth rock is like Bauhaus, Cure, etc. Gothic rock is more like Evanescence, Within Temptation, H.I.M., etc.)

Hard rock (Chevelle, Staind, Three Days Grace, Muse, etc.)

Industrial/gothic (Emilie Autumn, Psyclon Nine, She Wants Revenge, Blutengel, The Cruxshadows, Angelspit, Skinny Puppy...)

Industrial metal (Hanzel Und Gretyl, Rammstein, The Kovenant...)

Industrial rock (i.e. Orgy, Zeromancer, Marilyn Manson, L'ame Immortelle, NIN...)

Neo-Classical (Dark Sanctuary, Elend, Autumn Tears...)

Symphonic metal (Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, NightWish...)

Soundtracks (for movies, video games, etc.)
