Now that Ripper Owens is gone, I want to know what people think. Matt Barlow, considered by many fans to be superior to Owens, rejoined the band in December of '07. Which vocalist do you think is better? Post your reason.

Barlow rejoining the band is news to me, maybe I'll start listening to them again. I think he's the best they've had. Ripper wasn't bad, but his voice just doesn't have the same depth as Barlow's.

I also liked Greely, but I've never heard any of the old Adam stuff. From what I've heard, he was fired before "Stormrider" because he wasn't good enough and he refused to get vocal lessons.

Yeah, Ripper was pretty damn good. If you want to hear him at his best, then listen to The Glorious Burden, (don't get the International Version, though). Adam's only album was Iced Earth. I think, so far, that Barlow's best performance (of what I've heard) is The Dark Saga.

I say Barlow all the way. Ripper is good and all, but I don't think he's a perfect fit for Iced Earth. I don't listen too much to the first two guys. I have the double CD that's rerecorded with Barlow's vocals. I haven't gotten around to getting the older stuff.

Actually Greely's only album was Night of the Stormrider. Gene Adam sang on Iced Earth.

Is the double CD any good? Days of Purgatory, that is? So which albums are on it?

I've enjoyed it. The songs on it only come from the first four albums. Yeah, Barlow already sand on Burnt Offerings, but I think they remastered some of the songs for the DOP release.
