I'd like to learn how to play the guitar.....

Im 16 and I kinda think thats abit of an old age to start........ but then I see ppl like Glenn Tipton that didnt start till he was 21...... so that gives me abit of hope

I could of started when I was a little kid.......and I almost did.....

But I picked the Chanter over the Guitar..... cos I wanted to learn how to play the Great Highland Bagpipe at the time

So...... I can play the Chanter..... but not the pipes yet....

But anyway back to the point

Will having AS make learning the guitar harder ?

Are their any Guitarists with AS here who could give me a few tips ?

Im Left handed...... should I learn to play with my right or get a left handed guitar ?

Im gonna start with electric guitar first then acoustic guitar........ Any tips on good starter guitars ? (I dont want to spend to much on a starter gutiar...... would like to keep cash for when im ready to move on to a better guitar)

How long did it take you to get uesd to the basics of playing ?

I find learning new things very hard......... but once I get uesd to doing something I get kinda good at them no matter how hard I found it at the start..........

Thats how I 've found most things.... be it painting warhammer ( i've made some cash from my painting) or playing the chanter (will move on to the pipes soon........dont know why i've not done it yet i've been ready for awhile now.....)

But anyway thanks for any help

And Sorry for the bad grammar and lack of Punctuation they are not my forte (they are something i'll try to master later in life.......)

I also had an interest with the guitar. When I was in elementary school a number of teachers would sing songs and play the guitar. I liked the sound of it. I thought about learning how to play one but never got into it.

I'm not sure how hard serious vocal singing is, but I know that Luciano Pavarotti didn't start seroiusly until he was 19.

why not? I started playing guitar about 16 or so, so it's do-able. However, I play by ear, so I didn't have too much trouble at first. I found a list of chords, and sort of worked it out on my own.

Depends on what sort of guitar (both acoustic and electric) as well as style. A lot of people start with classical guitar, which I never mastered...;) There are people out there who will teach rock and/or jazz guitar. Start with 3-chord rock; easy to learn, and you can start a band that way...

I just learned how to play the guitar last semester, and I am 23. :)

Just a tip on callouses - until you've built them up, only play for 20 minutes a day, but do that at least 5 days a week. That way, no blood blisters.

And I say definitely go for the left handed guitar. It's the same thing, they just string the strings differently.

Probably the mandolin. And Annette Ezekiel and Jenny Conlee from the Decemberists make the accordion look awesome.

i started playing at 23, i am 27 now and am pretty happy with my progress. you want tips for electric guitar? get comfortable playing power chords, move them around. learn a couple scales and memorize them so that you can create music with them. learn how to do bends, vibrato, and some tricks like "tapping" and harmonics. video lessons are helpful and you can find a lot of them on youtube if you cant afford a teacher. remember to stretch your hands before playing and learn some warmup exercises.

I play guitar, and if you can focus on Chords/Timing/Practice for a couple of months, you can begin to figure it out on your own. Your fingers will hur during this time, but that wil fade with practice.

Also, a freind in Maine that I suspect has AS is also left handed. He taught himself to play a guitar strung right handed, though he still plays left haded. He's not only been playing longer than I have, he makes his own guitars and tube amplification as well.
