Question about how I should get start-up gear

I'm a computer musician, and I've struggled with unintuitive software. However, I found Live and love it. I'm planning on using that as a main sequencer if I get it for my birthday (but I hope I don't get 6LE... I can't live with only TWO VSTi and 12 internal instruments).

Also, I'm saving up money for a subscription to Computer Music. Should I keep saving toward it or get a MIDI controller? (The subscription, by the way, is a quarter long... but hey, free issue!)

In short, should I keep my plans or change them?
