How do you decorate pants/jeans with sharpies? Because I tried searching all over Google for how to do, but most of it consists of removing sharpie ink from pants.

sharpies are easy to get rid of. use one of the stain sticks.

Actually I wanted to know how to draw on jeans with sharpie pens, not to remove sharpies from them, but thanks Alex.

I don't know what you are talking about but I created a pretty good pseudo silk screen effect on jean material using masking film, an iron (with paper interface), speedball fabric silk screen inks + sponge and a hairdryer. here is the result:

It takes a little practice. Don't go into it without trying out on some sample materials and even that is no guarantee.

Ok I get what you mean. Permanent marker may have a 'distressed' effect if used fairly dry and quick. However expect run with any amount of pressure. Some fabrics it may run more. Metallic markers may run less.

What sort of effect are you hoping to achieve?

Although these are permanent markers they may not be run safe to be washed over an over at 40-60 degrees celsius, which means you may have to cold wash them.

I wash all my clothes except for whites cold. After then I dry them according to the label

My plan is to draw a few symbols and drawings on my pants, I actually have not done it yet, even though I had the plans for a while.

You should first draw your picture or design on paper, until you get it right. You cn use stencils if you want, or make your own, y drawing what you want then cutting it out, and using the empty shape left on the paper as a stencil. ooo, and there are sooo many cool sharpie colors...

You can get specific fabric pens, you know. They're not that expensive, and pretty good in my experience. I brought one this time last year to draw on the back of a coat, and have used it for two T-shirts and another symbol since.

I don't know the specifics, but making a stencil is always a good idea. Use cardboard or plastic if you can and a craft knife. Pinning it down works, but not particularly well, because you'll probably have to hold the edges of the stencil very close so that when the ink stains it it won't break.

You'll probably have to leave it for 24 hours+ to dry, and then I'd suggest ironing it before you wash it as well. If you do use fabric pens then you'll be able to get specific details on how to make sure it lasts long.

No matter what you do/use, it'll start to fade after a year or so, so make sure you keep the pattern/pen colours so that you can redo it if nessersery.

Hope some of this makes sense. I'm running off insomnia. XD

This is probably no help to Jkid, but I started reminiscing and now I wish to share.

I used to draw on my pants all the time, especially in 8th grade when I was in a public shool. At one point in time I had a peace sign on every pair of jeans I own, smiley faces on most of them too, as well as detailed pen-drawings usually of landscapes, boats, or skeletons in deserts. One time I put an anarchy sign near the opening of my front pocket and then thought "I'm not really an anarchist, I shouldn't have put it there," but then I realised how not bad it looked and thought "I could live with this," And other kids were always suprised, jealous, and/or in disbelief of the fact that my mom didn't get mad at me for drawing on my clothes.

Helpful hints- Sharpies and fairly perminent, ballpoint pens will wash out eventually, magic markers last a suprisingly long time, highlighters are weird, but none of these are imposible to get out. Drawings can be altered to look like other things if you accidently do something wrong. Draw with your pants already on if possible so that the image looks right.
