I find their language style and vocabulary to be refreshingly exact and thorough in contrast to our current American standards. Who are your favorite 18th century English authors or subjects?
Jane Austen is an acceptable addition.

I prefer 19th century, actually. (Austen tends to be considered in with this batch, by the way, in the resources I have available.) I do like Austen, and the Bronte sisters, Carroll, Dickens, and, when I'm feeling particularly into the era and want to wade through the "translation" issues, Percy Bysshe Shelley. I especially enjoy Kipling and Poe.
