Any other fans of Ulver here? I love all their stuff, black metal to folk to jazz to electronica and all other diverse experiments between (though I'm still getting into "Shadows of the Sun"). That's part of why I like them so much, they constantly reinvent their style and never stagnate.

I love the black metal / folk era of Ulver. Bergtatt, Kveldsjanger, Nattens Madrigal. Their other stuff I don't know quite as well - but I've enjoyed what I've heard. I should check it out a bit more. Still, nothing grabs me quite like their black metal material - Bergtatt is amazing.

They've covered a lot of stylistic territory, but I never really considered them to be masters at any one of their trades. The possible exception is Nattens Madrigal which was pretty good in its own right. I'm still sort of curious about Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, which seems to suggest a sort of transitional synthesis between their black metal and trip-hoppy phases, though I haven't heard it yet.

that has to be one of their best albums yet, very dark, and hauntingly beautiful.. although blood inside, perdition city and the new one are all very close.
