A lot of those with Asperger's like to and are good at writing (or so it seems). I really dislike writing and/or have nothing to usually write, even "recreational."

I am not into recreational writing either, but many of my english and history teachers from high school thought very highly of the quality of my essays. I remember despising writing essays when I was in middle school because I always thought that they would take an extremely long time, I would not be able to find necessary information, or wouldn't know what to write. Eventually, I started to enjoy writing essays and once completed one before it had been officially assigned (it had been mentioned in class but we were not given the rubric).

When I am given something specific to write about (eg. when I have to write an essay in philosophy), I usually do not know what to write and my work ends up being very short. Most of the time, the information needed is included, but it is very condensed.
I do not really enjoy writing because of that.

Nevertheless, when I am given an idea or a topic, or when something inspires me, I do not write longer essays or stories, but I like it more.

I write a lot and have been told my writing is good before.

I'm trying to get a novel finished by the end of summer, I only have 35 pages written.

I always got C's and an occasional B on my essays in high school English.

I like writing but I really struggle with it. Whether I am writing essays or creatively I have to do it three times. The first time I just scratch it all out. The second time I rewrite the entire thing. Finally I revise it. I spent age 21-23 teaching myself to write. It never came naturally. Once I became good at writing I let it go. I have had three different eBay businesses. I have written at least 15,000 emails in email language. I feel like email has destroyed my ability to write. Instant Messenger does not help either. Worngplanet.net seems to be bringing back some of my abilities but I find myself too lazy to revise my own posts. I think I may start a blog. This might be appreciated as I tend to overwrite in the forums. I can't help going on at great length as all of you are so inspiring.

Yeah, focused! Start a blog! You can use the blog feature here on WrongPlanet.net, or you can use one of a myriad of other services out there, and even set it up so the blog directory just links off-site to your blog.

Also, here's a tip. For those of you who have blogs here, if you want a quick link to the blog to send to someone or post on your site, here's what you do:

http://blogs.wrongplanet.net/yourname/

(replace yourname with the username you have on wrongplanet.net)

That redirects to the wrongplanet-hosted blog on our site. I'll expand the blog feature later if there's any need for that with other designs, etc. Also, if anybody would benefit from that automatic redirection for their off-site blog, let me know, and I can add that to my redirection script on there.

I used to write poetry all the time. Now I don't have time with 2 kids. Sometimes I feel inspirational but have lost my ability to write the way I used to. I too get extremely creative when given a topic without restrictions. I found out this year in school that my most creative part came out with assignments that included presentations. Since I too can go on and on and on I get very focused with what I am doing and then organize my presentation on slides and in my brain as to how I am going to give my presentation. Usually the best parts of my presentation are the ones that come in my mind last minute before I give out the presentation.

After my first presentation everyone was shocked and the teacher mentioned others may want to step up to getting their presentations out of the way in the future so they wouldn't have to follow a good presentation.

I used to write a lot until a psychologist wanted to read it - kind of nipped it in the bud... I was invited to present a talk at a college - first talk went over really well and I was invited back..... Then I got a bit carried away and told everyone to visualise taste and sound as textures, and express the sensation of fairy floss as an image... things went wrong at this point, I got a lot of funny looks from the organisers and was never invited back. I had fun tho, and lots of peculiar slides, sounds and smells for everyone. (the topic was texture and it was for a bunch of graphic designers)

Freaked out a psychologist, huh? 8) I did that once, and I do love to write, or at least make stories. Once there was an in-class assignment to give our own version of the fall of Satan, Milton style. I'm not a bible person myself, but have always had a soft spot for that ultimate rebel Satan. Plus it had been 4 years and not a single assignment in class was to write a story! English sucks: it's all about worshipping past writers, and never daring to presume that you pitiful student might have anything to write yourself.

Staying on topic though, I was revved up for this story and wrote like there was no tomorrow. My 4 of 5 pages of chicken scratch were turned in to the teacher (10 minutes late actually as I pushed the class time to the max) in a wacky little story where Satan and his army battered their way through hoards of bleeding angels, who being immortal couldn't die of course. God's temple was shaped like a giant egg. Lots of cool stuff. And when Satan got to God's throne, his found the gardener half cowering there, not from Satan, but in denial of his own mistakes. "I didn't mean for this to happen," God kept saying. Instead of attacking, Satan condemned God, saying that God made Satan the prince of Lies, and gave him all these desires and needs to rule the kingdom of Heaven, that good ole Lucifer had no choice but to make this happen. So God got mad and pushed his "I win" button, and everyone goes down to Hell.

...a few days later my teacher kept me after class. Asked me if there was anything I wanted to tell her, how my home life was going, and if I wanted to see a counselor. She was a nice woman really, but probably the only teacher I ever left the class regularly shaking with rage at her callous shallowness. I mean c'mon, not even a "nice story?" Jeez. I didn't go see a counselor, though. Probably should have in retrospect: was being abused pretty harshly back then. But the story wasn't indicative of that, it was just a damn good story.

most of you say you dont like writing recreationally, but how about typing recreationally? i know with myself, i can type so much more than writing, my hand is too slow and wonky to keep up haha

also: aspies should try scriptwriting! its so much easier and straight forward. you dont have to get riddled in descriptive words, you can focus on writing about specific details around the character instead of feeling pressurred to writing creatively.

Yeah Synx13 - I'm with todayiamhuman! Post the story please!! !

I've always been a keen advocate for the bad guy.. They are heaps more interesting than the good ones. Their generally a lot more realistic with clever ideas, a smattering of creativity, and a lot of lateral thinking and attitude.

I've got to say, I do kind of enjoy antagonising NT's when I'm in the mood. Of course it's generally accidental, but I just can't back down once I get going. We had to give a presentation on how we could help the environment, and make life sustainable, bla bla... I proposed that we plant fruit trees in cemetaries, cos of the good composting soil. This was deeply frowned upon, but I think it's a very sensible idea. No point in wasting valuable crop growning real estate - besides I'd love to have a tree planted over me - that way I'd continue to live.

I used to like writing essays, but then after doing so many at school, I started hating it most of the time. I still like writing on my specific topics of interests, though. And I've done some creative writing, including 2 novels (not published, just for fun). Poetry can be fun, too, but I never understand poetry written by other people (I always misinterprete symbols).

I love writing. I have so many ideas for stuff that I can't get them out quick enough and forget some of the details! I think I might end up writing lots of fantasy books, at least then you cant offend people by getting their country all wrong!

I do that sometimes. Once I wrote two "seasons" of a fanfiction called Mario Survivor. It was really interesting, but also quite unpredictable. I even started on a third Mario Survivor quite a while back, but it only lasted 2 parts before I "cancelled" it. (The first two lasted 20-something parts before they ended.) It was funny, but the characters were mostly out of character. (They were mostly friends [except for Jordin, who was a bad guy I made up myself {and his assistants}].) It was kind of funny! (At least I thought it was.) I spoofed lots of stuff, from the (Mario) games themselves to Yu-Gi-Oh to Serta, and that was just during "season 2!" I have nothing left of "season 1," but I have the entire "second season" on my computer, in case you were wondering.

I also have another "series." Actually, it was just a bunch of comedy sketches taking place in a fantasy TV studio place inside the internet. It had LOTS of errors in it, but I currently have three of the originals AND their edited versions (where I changed the characters' names and made it funnier altogether), including one I made an EXTREME plot change to. Still, it wasn't overly funny. If I compared a marathon of it to a marathon of The (classic) Addams Family, I'd probably enjoy the Addams Family marathon more.

*sigh* The (classic) Addams Family...a show that cannot be replaced by anything, not even Mario Survivor. (Although I STILL think it's funny when I think of those Pihanas rapping that song from the Serta commercial, which I barely knew the words to back then, so I wrote my own version of it.)

I wrote a couple(?) other plays/scripts/whatever you want to call them. One was a spoof of a play I read once, where I changed the characters in it to others, tweaked some of the lines a little, and added a subplot where two(?) characters babysit some kids. The other was my version of another story, in which I changed some things around and added some humor. Both were never finished.

All four of these were on Nick.com at one time, but by now, I bet they're all gone. And I'm not going back to that website EVER! Nor am I ever again going to any other similar probably-made-by-an-ignorant-NT-adult-who-doesn't-know-anything-about-us-aspies-type website. I'll finish telling you how incredibly terrible "Ick.com" is some other time.
