I've been wanting to listen to some more good industrial for a while, but I don't know where to look. I listen alot to Nine Inch Nails and I think they are awesome, and because of this started listening to Rammstein and KMFDM, as well as a few other artists. I found Rammstein is pretty good, KMFDM is okay, but alot of their stuff is a bit to "electronica" for me. The rest of the industrial music I discovered I found I didn't enjoy much. Does anyone recommend any industrial band/artist? Are there many out there that have a similiar sound?

I hear a lot of hype about Ministry, one of the classic industrial bands. But, I've never listened to them because I don't really care for industrial.

What was the other stuff that you found, but neglected to mention?

You may want to check out:

NON/Boyd Rice
Einsturzende Neubauten ( Haus Der Luge and anything preceeding it)--Strategies Against Archetechture Vol. 2 is a good 'best of' CD
SWANS (The stuff preceeding White Light From the Mouth of Infinity is a bit harsher sounding)
Controlled Bleeding/Paul Lemos
Chrome can also be considered Industral, Especially the Alien Soundtracks/Half Machine Lip Moves CD available from Touch and Go
Lydia Lunch's 1313 can also be considered industrial, if you can ever find a copy

If you like Rammstein though you might also like:

Hansel+Gretyl
Pigface (I recommend 'Welcome to Mexico, as*hole', and 'A new High in Lows')
Kaspar Brotzmann Massaker -Kochsofen
Atari Teenage Riot

Purchase Pure by Gary Numan. I would consider that to be industrial.
Also, perhaps you may be interested in Joy Division, songs like Isolation have got a faint industrial sound (just no over produced guitars and drums though).

If you like NIN, you could do a lot worse than add Celldweller to the list, you'll probably like it. Fear Factory are damn good too if you lean towards industrial metal.

Can't pass up a chance to plug Joy Division... other Joy Division songs with an industrial sound include the 12" version of She's Lost Control, and Atrocity Exhibition, which has to be the most discordant, fractured song they ever wrote.

Awesome, I'll definately have to check all these artists out as soon as possible. I wish I was allowed to download music on the free internet here on residence..then I could download them right away.

Well I record 'Industrial Music' myself although I don't do the dance stuff 'cos I hate most of it -- although I did see Ministry last year who were cool. I'd add Throbbing Gristle and Wolf Eyes. Oh, and SPK...

ive listened to something interesting called Metatron (not to be confused with about umpteen other bands also named "metatron").

and i dont know if this fits in this category, but there's actually a whole genre of "electronic grind" or some call it "techno grind". it's usually created by one person with a drum machine and a computer for sampling. and they usually have growling or nonsense gurgling vocals as well, but not all of them.

Damn, I forgot Mortiis... I classed him as darkwave rather than industrial. Great stuff anyway...

This is an industrial thread and no one's mentioned Skinny Puppy? That's heresy!
