I am reposting this in case it is not seen in the activism forum:

I've beem missing being an active part of collectives since I recently moved across the country & I thought it would be very cool to do shows where all of the artists are autistic. I have some pretty well laid out ideas and enough contacts to get a local here in albuquerque, but what I am really looking for are people from all over the untied states who would be interested in participating (as in putting thier art in shows) or helping to set up shows in different parts of the country about 3 times a year.

If any one else is interested in participating or has any ideas about this, etc. please feel free to reply here, pm me or email me at cheryls.copy at gmail.com.

Depending on the feed back, I will have more information on logistics, etc. with-in the next few days.
P.S.It is my interest that the first show be produced in albuquerque so I can take advantage of my contacts and also get some curatorial experience. ;p

I have fun making pictures, but to be perfectly honest, the only thing I've every produced that relates to autism is my avatar...

I don't think she meant the art should be related to autism, but rather that the artists would be autistic.

Had this idea before, but strayed away from it. What you need to make an arts collective work is a certain chemistry between the people involved, as in: shared ideas about the art you want to make, about the content, and shared interests or point of views are important in case the art you make is somewhat political (while if it is not the case, shared artistic preferences and generally good corporation is the essential bit). If the people involved are all autistic or not is not going to make or break the functioning of your arts group, the general cohesion between the people involved is what matters most.

There was an aspie art show in my area that I missed, I found out about it after it was over. If I see another one I'll try to get in it.

Well my thought was that it would be best if it were run like any art show, with an open invitation to (autistic) artists to send in art relating to the subject (which can be chosen by comitee tho I have a very specific idea for what I want the first one to be about). The thing that would differentiate it from the average artists group being that all of the artists are autistic, are interested in showing people thier perspective of the world, which we all know apparently differs drastically from the NT experience and be willing to leverage thier autistic-ness as a tool to educate NT's about autism.

Just for clarification I do not mean just visual artists. It would also be great to have musicians, actors, writers, poets....etc. All of these people being greatly talented and even necesary to complete expression, especially if they would be interested in working together. (For example a writer and musician teaming up to make an interactive presentation of a poem)

Also, the people interested in joining would need to be willing to communicate and participate mostly online (I'll be adding links to a facebook & a myspace group shortly) and hopefully be interested in traveling to the show locations (first show would hopefully be in New Mexico).

They would also need to be willing to spend a little of thier own money, like for fliers to put up at autistic support groups inviting other autistic people to partcipate, etc.

I would loooove to have your perspective on things crackedpleasures, since you seem to have more experience with this kind of things than I do.
And Ike please send me more info about what kind of art you are interested in/what you do and also where you are located.
DToxic if you are interested in participating you could send me the same info I've asked Ike for.

You can't always wait for someone else to get your same bright idea and do all the hard work for you! Sometimes you have to do it for yourselves :)

Thanks. :D

I was hesitant to put it up on Woohooligan actually... ;) It's been very controversial... Dunno why, it's just a joke... parody of the old Sorayama paintings... there's not even any actual sex in it -- she's got a trap door, it doesn't even vaguely resemble girl bits. :)

Thinking about doing another one showing a male robot struggling with erectile dysfunction as a parody of a Viagra ad.

ah people -- i wish you would stop assuming we all live in the United States of America!

Aisde from that, the idea is a great one. wish i lived over there and could be a part of it.

I have had some experience with professional artists' collectives, however. and I have never fit in..... (funny that....)
that was with normal run of the mill artists and they never quite get me....

maybe it would be better with people on the spectrum.

I thought it might be a bit presumptious to try something world wide if I'm not even certain I can make it work nation-wide....
But hey, you can participate with suggestions or criticism, etc or be on the selection comittee (if you want)

Ok so, what would you be interested in doing? If it's participating in the show I will send you the rules for sending your stuff to your PM. If it's something else such as making and handing out fliers, etc. any suggestions would be appreciated. What state are you in right now?
