I read in some review, that the character is supposed to be a savant, (maths, natch), maybe that's why he comes across so extreme.
I couldn't finish the book, the character is so "textbook" aspie/autie, so clichè, that really annoyed me after a while.
It's probably, because the author worked with AS kids, he can describe them well, but he doesn't really understand why they are that way.
The worst clichè in the book is the strict avoidance of hyperboles, as if no autistics ever understand anything hyperbolic, sarcastic, or ironic.
I mean just because I don't always get it, when someone's ironic, doesn't mean I'm oblivious to the concept of irony.
