I'm looking for music with some connotations of the title. Not good music...sublime music. Post relevant pieces.

I would start by nominating Lateralus by Tool, and Altered Course by Isis.

Continuing on the post metal, I'm also going to say that Lift by Rosetta does (although as a 3 part song I can't post that one...)

I'm not going to bother defining the term in the subject heading because I'd rather see what y'all come up with. Happy hunting.

John Coltrane. You probably won't like it though.

I feel that only good musicians can truly appreciate him.

I agree with Coltrane, but do you seriously think all Coltrane fans are musicians?

But he is brilliant.

I'll start with a few d&b, may post rock or other things in a bit:

breakage - the shroud (turin)
survival - the beginning
krust - true stories
bkey - dimenxion x
eye d - unicorn mf (black sun empire remix)
skc & matt u - primevil
grooverider - starbase 23

I don't know that these are my 'be all end all of sublime' but I think they're a good start at least, if I think of any that would top this list I'll add later.

Thanks guys. Keep 'em coming (:

I find the concept of the sublime I think of is like that described by Wikipedia as being characeristic of Schopenhaur:

Quote:
For him, the feeling of the beautiful is pleasure in simply seeing a benign object. The feeling of the sublime, however, is pleasure in seeing an overpowering or vast malignant object of great magnitude, one that could destroy the observer.

* Feeling of Beauty - Light is reflected off a flower. (Pleasure from a mere perception of an object that cannot hurt observer).
* Weakest Feeling of Sublime - Light reflected off stones. (Pleasure from beholding objects that pose no threat, yet themselves are devoid of life).
* Weaker Feeling of Sublime - Endless desert with no movement. (Pleasure from seeing objects that could not sustain the life of the observer).
* Sublime - Turbulent Nature. (Pleasure from perceiving objects that threaten to hurt or destroy observer).
* Full Feeling of Sublime - Overpowering turbulent Nature. (Pleasure from beholding very violent, destructive objects).
* Fullest Feeling of Sublime - Immensity of Universe's extent or duration. (Pleasure from knowledge of observer's nothingness and oneness with Nature).

The "overpowering or vast malignace" reminds me of the sound of good post metal...
