This is written fairly closely to the villenelle style of poetry. It is about the relationship between Christopher Carrion and Princess Boa from the books of Abarat.
--The Lord of Midnight--
The Lord of Midnight, scourge of Night and Day
A destiny of darkness and invention
And with his princess things would go astray.
She was born of love, but he held no sway
His letters spoke of great and true intention
She could not love Lord Midnight, scourge of Day.
A man of pure heart kept the dark at bay
Their love was true and free of all pretension
And with his princess naught would go astray.
Alone, unloved, all good thoughts fell away
Despair left him with thoughts of intervention
And he would make her last the saddest Day.
That gruesome death for all was on display
But untold magic gave her soul retention
With that the Fantomaya went astray.
Death to the dragons, all of them would pay
Not one of them must live, not one exemption
The Lord of Midnight, scourge of Night and Day
And with his princess things would go astray.
