So two days ago I was revising my portfolio for school, and I just couldn't concentrate, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought an instrumental music ablum to help me concentrate. Yesterday I went to the library with my mom (she had knitting class) and sat in the desk. I turned on my mp3 and put it on the instrumental music. I began revising my portfolio piece, and you know what? My writing came out smooth; I didn't have to think about my sentence structure at all. If was as if I became high and wrote it (No I don't smoke marijuana.) It was better than the first draft. No thinking about composing. No stilted sentences. My writing became not an artery pulsing at some parts, anymore, but a vein flowing through the text.
I wonder now: can music help you with your writing voice at times? I heard that music channels your thoughts and feelings onto paper, so I'm wondering if that's part of your voice. What's your take on this?
