I'm not talking about "convert photo into an oil painting with photoshop". Does anyone use an application to actually paint from scratch?

I've just discovered a program called ArtRage. Its really cool, you can use oils, pencil, crayon etc.

Ive tryed Corel Painter but it is far too bloated and slow and just destroys any creative mood. However the water colour is excellent, sadly something that Artrage lacks.

So anyone else do this? I know a lot of you paint, but Im wondering if you do it on computer. I dont see myself buying some oilpaints, so this is a great alternative to learn.

I got lots of ideas for paintings, except the problem is that I cannot paint so its going to be a long road ahead for me. And I already need to learn the piano, improve guitar, learn photoshop and web design :( The joys of being an aspie!

I use Studio Artist, which is designed for rotoscoping video, which I used for rotoscoping my most recent documentary - one half using an oil look, and the other half with a watercolor look, aiming all the while for a "realism" look, a la Andrew Wyeth. It's by and far my favorite painting program, and there are some who use it from scratch, although it's design is for using with photos or video. Originally a musician myself, I find this program very intuitive as all the controls are laid out like a modular synthesizer - not surprising when you consider the program's inventor ALSO invented Pro Tools. They have a download demo (Mac Only)....
