Okay, I'm looking forward to getting some poetry books, but I don't know which ones to get. You know any books out there for the novice with no skills. I know if I want to get a degree in English creative writing, I have to writing some poetry. Please help.

Do you mean books of poetry or books on how to write poetry?

I recommend getting the Complete Works of great poets. find a poem you love, or a specific author and learn their collected works.

I have Ginsbergs complete works, and its great to read through everything they have written.

The Norton Anthology of Poetry will give you a very wide survey of styles and authors. Try to imitate what you like in your own words and experience. We all learn by imitation to start before we find our own way to express ourselves.

Books of poetry by well-known writers like Edgar Allan Poe might be a good thing to buy, to try and see how they are structured and how the poem's meanings are displayed.
