I recently heard about Agnetha Fältskog releasing a solo album. As an ABBA fan, I was curious.

But I must say that I'm disappointed. She's still a brilliant singer, so I can't really dislike her music, but there's nothing unique about her style any more.
What I like about ABBA is that the music is quite transparent; you can hear the voices and the instruments. In her solo album, she employs all the cheap effects that everybody else uses nowadays. It sounds completely "smoothed down". [1,2]

I can understand that she wants to make calmer music now that she's older. But there are some really good calm ABBA songs [3,4], where they don't do any of the things above. I just don't understand why she does no. She still has such a strong voice – why does she weaken it artificially?

I bought Agnetha's new album A I thought she did a great job with it.
I'm glad she didn't go the way some singers have the way they wail and screech.
I didn't like the "I stand alone" album she did in the late 80's (I thought it was too slow)
but this one is brilliant.
