I honestly don't care what a game looks like if its fun. In fact I found Super Mario Galaxy to be the best game released in 2007 by a long shot. And dammit, I'm a guy and I'm not afraid to admit that I enjoyed The Sims and Bejeweled. 'Girl games' my ass, they're fun games.

I just need to find a girl thats into games as thats my been my main source of entertainment for 18 years now, and If I can't talk about that with someone, I don't have much of anything to say to them.

Do any girls here like games with excessive violence? I do.

You're joking right?

*Slaps her copy of Soul Caliber III down on the table* "Bring it on!"

Unfortunately I am wii-less :( so I can't enjoy Super Mario Galaxy yet.
....Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is looking mighty good as well.

Love those fighting games!

One of my very good friends loves Halo 3.
She is always talking about it.

I'm just trying to prove my point that there are plenty of gamer girls out there. Really. You just have to look and ask, they won't necissarily be wearing a Halo 3 T-shirt, but you never know until you ask.

That probably mostly applies to cel-phone games like Be-jeweled.

Girls still struggle at 'real' games like Half-Life 2 or Super Mario Galaxy. I'm not saying why, but the ones I've dated and hung out with only play Lego Star Wars because its easy and has unlimited lives, or Kingdom Of Hearts because of the Disney-esque cuteness and lack of difficulty in game play. Don't get me wrong, I've love to meet (and date) a hardcore female gamer.

Counterstrike. played that before steam came out. People used to hiss and whine and say "You aren't really a female" after ranking number one.

If World of Warcraft became mostly female, it would then be deemed not a real game. I also played Doom, Duke Nukem so those games have been tainted as well. Burn it. Played by a female, it's no longer just exclusive for males.

It's that attitude that makes some guys seem really immature.

It's in terms of difficulty that I meant. Mario Galaxy isn't actually a hard game, but after you get 60 stars and then go after the Purple and Daredevil comets, it gives you a bit of a challenge.

Also, WoW isn't a difficult game to play. I level to 60 a year back when they didn't have the increased exp from quests on a protection Warrior in as little as 11 days (which is considered fairly fast back in the days). Even Online, on the other hand, is another story.

Its true I hate being beat by a girl at Soul Caliber . ANd I insist on playing IVY shes a powerful female rolemodel like Xena or Wonder Woman.

Tetris has ALWAYS been catnip for girls. And they always beat me.

My friend has JAWS. She never plays the game just tortures swimmers. I'm the same way with Hulk Ultimate distruction. She loves Vodoo Vince and Odd world.

I love Medal of Honor and Serious Sam. I admit " I hate jumping puzzles."

Think about it this way ladies. Not only do girls run things dating wise you got the pick of the litter if you're into games.

Meanwhile I think the wise thing for this macho man to do is take up Yoga or Cooking.

My wife is the one who got me into gaming. She's been gaming since text-based MUDs before the real internet. We've been on WoW since November, 2004. She's the best healer I know but plays effectively at all the classes so she knows what she's up against in pvp. She has multiple 70s while I'm only on my third. We're not in the right time zone or situation to be able to participate in a serious raiding guild, but the game is still fun. Yes, leveling toons in WoW is not "difficult" but end game and pvp require a serious amount of skill and practice.

Our old guild leader was female and a very effective resto shaman. We actually had several women in the guild and we were farming SSC, The Eye, and Gruul, so ladies, my well geared rogue and shadow priest thank you for playing!! !

My wife's also a major badass at Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, any driving game, and a total killer at most RTS games. She's a console pro too. If she starts a game she will beat it. She's really the best gamer I know. It's her passion. I refuse to play against her in RTS games so we always do 2v2.

I remember when I got her the D&D based RTS (I forget the name) and there was an event in the single player mode where you were supposed to "fail" to trigger the next bit of story, but she owned it so hard that the next event would not trigger and she was stuck - this was her first time playing it too. She wrote a scathing review at Amazon.

I'm a guy and I'm offended at the generalizations made by Comkeen. You simply cannot judge the entire gender based on your own limited personal experience. But I guess this is in the Love and Dating section and we can see why some guys have issues with girls.

As for the OP's post, chances are these gamer girls are busy gaming or on forums discussing their games of choice. There are a couple of quality groups on myspace for women gamers and guys do occasionally participate so you would not be 100% unwelcome if you came in with a good attitude and a healthy dose of tact.

I used to play my brother's games all the time as a kid and teenager. I'd spend any free time beating all the donkey kong games, Tomb Raider, Super Mario and a couple ohers.

I've never played an mmorg, but I might when Exanimus cmes out. Depends on how much free time I have in grad school. School first, ya know. :/

Now that I'm older, I play the Sims 2 if I free tme. But that game never ends. And as for the people who play it, I think it requires a lot of creativity just to make it really enjoyable.

I wouldve played a wider variety of games when I was younger/played platform, if I knew of more titles. So I just stuck to my "chosen few".

I think the fact that my boyfriend plays gmes is hot. Don't know why.

You're right, I made that point about WOW not being hard yet alot of 1337 WOW players act like such idiots as if it's such a hard game and get so surprised if a female is good.

I haven't seen really challenging console or pc games since the atari days and maybe even King's quest where you had to at least somewhat use your brain. Then there was Odd World.

Dying in games now is a complete joke. Oh and what about that tedious Pitfall? At least it had a real purpose and that was to drive someone nuts. Did it ever end?

Then there was Alone in the Dark which inspired Resident Evil. MMO's aren't meant to be mentally challenging. It's meant to see who can get the most players and who can imitate "WOW" the most but really WOW is imitating Everquest but all that really matters is who gets the most clients.

So now we have MMO's saying "yeah we must do things the world of warcraft way" It's not because of the pretty graphics (which you have to admit for such a manly territorial pissed on game it sure is PRETTY), it's because of how many people are playing and going HAH, I pwned youz.

Oh and sedake, whorelock...hahha. I was surprised when they made warlocks something worth fearing.

If you really want a challenge, Final Fantasy XI is the MMORPG you want. It can and is usually played the easy way (each quest done with a friend of lvl 75) but you can also become a Beastmaster which is the solo class, and do everything solo. including quests.

(as for missions, some missions are easy but some are very hard which is fun to do with 5 others)

I've heard it's more challenging. :)

I don't like MMO's anymore, are there any good single player games out that you would give a good review for the PC? I like first person shooters and real time or turn based strategy games. I would prefer the strategy games right now based on mood.

Anyone have suggestions?

I don't understand what the fuss is about with calling a game a "guy game" or a "girl game". There is no such thing as guy games or girl games.

There also isn't any such thing as girl gamers... at least none I know personally...

My daughter is a gamer.

She knows the ins and outs of a lot of different Barbie games.

She also goes online to Playhouse Disney.

I think this is the reason there aren't as many girls out there who get into games. Working at Toys R Us Ive noticed most parents idea of buying video games for their daughters consist of getting them a Pink DS and whatever the latest Barbie, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Etc. game is. Its no wonder they don't stick with it when they are only given crappy games.

My niece is being educated on games properly. When shes over here she always wants to play Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Guitar Hero. She'll be 7 in February, 3 days before the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If I can manage to find a new job before then and afford it, I'll be preordering it for her parents have a Wii. Though generally my sister and her husband just use it to play wii sports while drinking after the kids are in bed.

But yeah, working at TRU makes me want to make a giant sign that reads "If its based on a movie or TV series, it probably sucks".
