hi everyone,
ive been trying to find resources and groups about being gay and aspie, without much luck. any others out there? anyone in the nyc area?
im a junior in college, and find it really hard to meet people in the gay community due to my lack of social skills. im also not into the whole gay scene and clubbing and all that.
it gets really lonely feeling like you cant connect to anyone, and that you're not good enough.

Hi pixelsurgeon,

I also wish I knew of resources for GLBT Aspies throughout the tri-state area, but no luck yet. There are definitely ASD groups in my local area (New Haven County, CT) but nothing that specifically also addresses GLBT. I came out as bisexual maybe 2-3 years ago, about the same time I learned of AS so I don't consider myself an expert at all in either of those things. Bars and clubs I have gone to in the past, but just for socializing and I never liked doing it.

Would be cool to be able to discuss experiences and trade helpful tidbits though. There must be other NYC GLBT AS (alphabet soup  ) folks on WP but not sure...

I went on the LIGALY website and put in "autism" in the search box, and it gave some info about a support group for GLBT people on the autistic spectrum. It meets twice a month, and there's a phone number listed that you can call for more info.

Hello. I'm here, for what it's worth. :)

The guy who posted the support group info presumably lives in the area too, and I know of one other person from (I think) Rockland County who I've chatted to a bit.

Oh, and I don't do bars, clubbing, etc. either, or really understand "gay culture" thing altogether. As far as I'm concerned, sexual orientation is about who you're attracted to...and nothing else.
