Hi, as you can see I'm from the school of ASD called 'active but odd'. That means the people try to talk and join in but are still.. well.. odd. You probably know more about it than I do anyway.

I love to read pretty much any book I can get my hands on. I can knit and sew but mostly I spend my time on chatrooms. They're where I get the bulk of my socialisation because I have a lot of anxiety around dealing with people.
I'm a bit of a straight shooter at times which gets me into trouble, and sometimes I'll say something I don't realise people could take wrong. Please don't think I'm trolling!

I'm very relieved to have found this forum with other Martians because my support people don't know much about ASD or work with me about it specifically. (I have learned to hide some telltale signs, and come across as really high functioning. Sometimes deceptively so.)
I look forward to getting to know you all!

Cheers, activebutodd

My name is Philip Alexander Troy, age 21. I'm a writer in my spare time, and I work for the army as a Logistics Quartermaster when I'm not writing. I am a full-blown Aspie, and I love every minute of it. Apart from writing, I am also an Astronomer and a Physicist, enjoying both sides. Before I get the joke, I do believe in life in space, and I believe that one day we will meet it. I do not believe in little green men.
As far as looks go, I'm not much. 6'0" on the nose, with blond-brown hair and cyclic eyes (green/gray/blue). Too many scars, mostly from mouthing off to people bigger than I was when I was in school. A few due to my own stupidity.
I love to read, and that is the source of my nickname "Bookkeeper", and the fact that I collect books. It's fun.
That's all about me - nothin' much else. Sorry.

-Bookkeeper

Hey, my name is Giancarlo, 17 years old and I live in Perú (South America)

After being misdiagnosed with multiple things (schizophrenia for example) I finally was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome last year, it's been rough, but I'm glad I've found this place, many of your experiences and questions help me and my family a lot.

I'm interested in music (I'm enjoying Spoon and The Decemberists at the moment), art, philosophy, video games and comedy.

My name is Selina Whiteley. I am very creative; a journalist, charity-worker and mediator currently living in the North of Ireland but originally from England. I love helping people, doing fundraisers and listening to other peoples stories. I have written many of the stories I’ve heard about people in the North of Ireland into poems. I have four collections of poetry and am published widely in ezines, magazines and anthologies. I adore politics and want to work as a civil servant or PA at some point. I am good at most subjects especially history, politics, physics, literature, linguistics, politics and art.

Forgive me for asking, Speacenik, but what kind of poetry to you write? I consider myself a bit of a poet, and I am interested. Also, what are the titles of your poetry collections? I may be interested in checking them out sometime.

Hi, my name is Rachel.

I'm 26 years old and I live in the fine state of Iowa in the U.S.A. I can tell you what the phrase "knee high by July" really means and what prairie oysters really are (you probably don't want to know.)

I'm a librarian by trade, although I'm currently unemployed. I've just been diagnosed with Asperger's, so some very nice people at Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation are trying to help me adapt and find a new job. I won't give up! Being a librarian is my lifelong dream.

I measure around 5'9", and am blonde with blue eyes. Yes, I'm a natural blonde. No, you may not ask my weight, don't you know you're never supposed to ask a woman that?! I wear glasses because I'm very near-sighted and I can't stand wearing contacts.

My hobbies are reading, writing, boating, riding motorcycles, and music of all kinds. I have been a huge anime fan for over 10 years, and have collected over 300 DVDs. PM me if you ever want to talk about it.

If my disjointed rantings haven't scared you away, feel free to PM me! I'd like to make some new friends. :D

It's nice to meet you! I just joined too, and I saw your introduction. I'm a huge book fanatic too. What book is currently your favorite? I like "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Friedman. It really changed how I looked at the world. I'm also fond of "Lamb" by Christopher Moore, even if it is kind of crude. Have you read either of them?

My favorite book of all, eh? That's a toughie. I own well over a thousand, so picking one is tough. I'd have to settle with "Mutation" by Robin Cook. It talks about a genetically altered son with intelligence beyond comprehension, who is eventually destroyed because people do not see the worth in his research. I see lots of similarities between this story and that of Aspergers people. Bear in mind, Mutation was supposed to be a horror story, so the kid is kind of creepy and evil. However, there are things he will say and do that make perfect sense to an Aspergian, but not to someone who isn't part of us. That's why I love the book.
I've never heard of "The World is Flat", but I'm going to check it out. Anything that comes recommended by a librarian is worth a peek. I'm not a big fan of Christopher Moore, but I'll likely take a look due to the same reason mentioned above. Who knows - maybe I'll like it.
It's great to see another book lover in this day and age. What with things like that infernal Kindle machine, and all the eBook and online stuff, it's hard to find time to sit down and enjoy a good book. I had always wanted to be a librarian myself, but the nearest hiring library is 50+ miles away, and I don't drive. No WAY I'm walking that far to work every day ;)
Anyway, hi. Welcome aboard. Like I said, it's always good to see a fellow book lover. PM me if you want - I'm fine with it. Love your sig, by the way.

Hi, my name is cornjuliox (I'm not gonna give my real name out just yet), age 21, grew up in America, but I moved to the Philippines when I was 14 and have lived here ever since. My obsession is video games on all platforms, but my platform of choice is the PC.

I first discovered Asperger's on Wikipedia, while looking for Final Fantasy stuff (don't ask me how I got there, I don't remember :-/), and I was shocked because it was a very accurate description of me. I then started looking for stories, personal accounts of people with Asperger's and found that I could relate to a lot of what they spoke about, about their childhood and their experiences growing up. I found two online tests, one on Wired, and another elsewhere, and the results say that I am "very likely an Aspie", but I'm reluctant to rely on what is basically a questionnaire in place of a formal diagnosis made by a professional. That's partly why I'm here, to try and find information that can help me.

I'm not in college yet (money issues), but I hope to be able to study Game Design in Japan (along with the Japanese language). In the meantime I'm studying Python and C++ on my own, as well as HTML and CSS because I want to make myself a personal website.

Most people call me the "Amazon" because I'm a 6'2" and a girl, which is weird because I'm taller than almost everyone I meet. I'm 25 years old and I'm working on a degree in psychology. I have a previous degree in anthropology. I've always found that kind of weird, because I have a really hard time talking to people, but I like to study them, especially human genetics and evolution. I'm absolutely obsessed with genetics and geneaology. I could spend hours working on kinship diagrams, the more detailed the better. My other big obsession is martial arts. I used to box, but it's hard to find matches for women around here, so I started learning kung fu and now I fight in MMA matches occaisionally. I like to work out a lot as well, because you can actually see and measure your progress as you go.

Some weird things about me: I'm naturally ambidextrous. I was born with six fingers on each hand, but they amputated the extra ones when I was a baby. My mother said they were functional, so I kind of wish they'd left them on. I have a minor type of discalculia (basically dyslexia with numbers), but it seems to be improving as I get older or maybe it's just that I've had more practice.

Things I like: I like to read, especially anything related to genetics or evolutionary theory. I also like science fiction. I like to write, but it takes me forever to actually finish a story. I really like cheesy kung fu movies, the cheesier the better. Iron Monkey and Kung Fu Hustle are my favorites. I love animals, and I currently have two cats named Chewbacca and Pyewacket and a dog named Ulf.

So, that's me in a nutshell. :)

Welcome to WP!

What part of Alabama? I've been to Mobile/Gulf Shores, and it was one of the nicest places I've ever been.
