Talk about yourself for a bit
Hi everyone
I am a woman 41 years old, i am from Sweden. I recently got my diagnose(sp?) . I have "high-functioning atypical autism" and ADHD , thats what the doctor said.
I am pleased with my diagnose and feel very much at home with other people with asperger/autism. I found this board through google and I am also member of a swedish Asperger board. There is so much to read and learn here, you have a wonderful forum! Thankyou!
Hello everyone,
I am 23 years old and am currently trying to finish college. I was diagnosed with AS when I was 20 years old. Before I knew what AS was, I just thought of myself as shy and akward. I was referred to as "the dumbest smart kid on the planet", because I would consistently prove teachers wrong, but could barely carry on a normal conversation. I used to enroll in group activities in an attempt to force myself to learn to socialize. I think this may have helped a little, but was very stressful. I played football in junior high and high school, and had career stats of somewhere around 2 passes for -5 yards (over the course of 6 years). I was also in the marching band and on the football team at the same time for several years, making half time very interesting. When I went off to college for the first time, I decided that I would force myself to be social and meet people by joining a fraternity. By the start of the 2nd semester, I was so overwhelmed that I refused to come out of my room for weeks except to eat once every few days. I had to drop out, but came back next year. After 7-8 months of living in the fraternity house, I was completely unstable, having massive meltdowns frequently. I returned home again and checked myself into a top of the line psychiatric hospital. Five months later, I was released with a diagnoses of AS and Bipolar D/O. I transferred to a college in my hometown, and I am struggling with returning to school.
I listen to music all the time, and am leaving after I finish typing this to go see Trans-Siberian Orchestra live. I would say my favorite band is Linkin Park, especially their CD Minutes to Midnight. I make my own music, as well. I play guitar (not well) and trumpet.
I am majoring in Electrical Engineering, and also taking classes in number theory, music theory, and psychology.
I will regularly spend 24+ hours in front of my PC trying to make it run faster. I built it from scratch in summer of 2006, and it would beat anything I could find in a store at the time. Here are some of the specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor @ 2.86 GHz (stock 2.60)
Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI-Deluxe with master clock up 10%.
Ram: 2GB Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO @ 512 MHz (I think... SiSoft Sandra wont show me) @ 2.5-3-3-6-T1 (stock 400 MHz at 2-3-2-6-T1)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX OC 512 @ 720 MHz (stock 650)
HDD: WD Caviar Black 7200 RPM 1 TB drive with dual processor and 32 MB Cache
(Forgot brand) 7200 RPM 1 TB drive
1x 74GB WD Raptor 10,000 RPM
Disk drives: 1x BD-ROM/DVD-RW/CD-RW ; 1x DVD-RW/CD-RW ; 1x floppy drive
Im Nils, a 23 year old guy from Norway.
I learned some years ago that I had Asperger (Around 16-17). I then was glad to find out, cause I was never been like the other kids. I currently have a part time job in a newspaper and have my own apartment. In my spare time I like watch tv, play PS3 (Madden, FIFA, NHL, NBA), and try to write some stories (which never grow big).
I' m very interested in/obsessed with sports, and watch as much as I can of that. As most Scandinavians I'm most into wintersports like alpine skiing, cross country skiing and biathlon, but i also love watching football, american football, basketball and most other sports. I am also very much into geography and politics, and is fascinated of USA, why i dont know, but I've been fascinated and interested in that country almost my whole life.
I'm also very much into animals, and especially dogs. Me and my family have a almost 14 year old Bichon Frisé, named Alfa. I'll try starting a blog here, and update it later.
Hello. My name is Ben and I am 16. I have Asperger's Syndrome and Tourette's Syndrome, both diagnosed within the last months, so I am rather new to this. I love college and I am studying Chemistry, Biology, German, Maths and Italian, and I have a passion for languages, German being my absolute favourite although I am partial to a bit of Spanish and Italian. I play the piano, and have been for the last 3 years. I now teach several little children, which is of course great fun. Unusually, I also like to write, although I tend to stay away from fiction, recounting biographical events. Although I am quite young, I live by the philosophy "It's OK to be different." and in view of this, I won't let my differences hold me back from anything, apart from using bunsen burners, because TS makes me actually touch flames, which as you can imagine is rather painful. In the past, my obsessive interests have included dinosaurs, pokemon and collecting books, but right now I am highly interested in random medical diseases, ranging from Necrotising Fasciitis to of course the conditions I have been diagnosed with. As such, I hope to go to Cambride university to study medicine, because it would be the msot fascinating thing ever to do. When I am not studying or playing the piano, I like to paint as a creative outlet. My forte is in modernist abstract expressionism, and I have done several huge paintings which mow have pride of place in my bedroom. My favourite colour is Amazonian Green and my room used to be that colour, but my parents disliked it so it is now white.
It has been lovely to read about everyone and I am looking forward to partaking in discussions.
Have a whimsical Christmas.
I'm Little_Professor (my real name is Alexander). I have AS and ADHD. I'm a fourteen year old teenager with blue/green eyes, dark brown hair, two arms and legs, and a passion for road bicycling. I have two VERY loud siblings (a younger brother and a younger sister). My biggest interest is physiology (the study of the human body), specifically, neurophysiology (the study of how the human brain operates on the cellular level). I like talking about philosophy, religion (although I'm an atheist), and almost all types of science (biology, physics, electronics, etc). One of my favorite topics is insect physiology and insect behavior. I became interested in insects because my father is a world-class entomologis, so I learn a lot about insects from him. If there is anybody out there who likes discussing physiology or any of the topics mentioned above, then talk to me.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum. I have 4 kids, three of which are on the spectrum...ages 16, 11 and 9. 16 year old is high functioning, articulate, highly intelligent. 11 year old is non verbal girl and 9 year old is high functioning with high anxiety and adhd.
Myself.....I can see some traits...ie, social skills, sometimes I just feel like an alien in a rude world where no one else gives a damn about anyone else and as long as they are ok, they just dont care about anyone else. I am apt to speak my mind where other people just dont say what they are thinking.
What I am most looking for in this forum is an insight into how my 11 year old thinks....and the best ways to bring out the beautiful little person who I know is trapped inside. She is smart....but how to get her to communicate it is another thing. I hate when people baby her......she isnt a baby, she is a young woman almost and can understand everything that is said.
My beautiful boys can and will find their niches in life, but my girl is trapped in her sensory overloaded world.
Hi. I'm dhp. I'm now 36.4 years old, and I live alone in Florida currently in a small, one bedroom villa. Socially, I'm about 14 years old; however, hopefully this will change soon. This past year has been a slight re-awakening for me, as I realized that some of my behavior is not totally my fault; and it is a relief to know that! Some of my depression has gone away because of this too. But here is the weird part, for some reason, my obsession with mathematics has re-awakened. I am certain that this will hold me back socially in many ways; yet, I can't help it. I believe that everyone has something that "gets them going"; i.e. excites them and makes them want to do more with that (if you found it, make that your career if you can). For me, it is two things: math and music.
Oh, those two are so related in so many ways, it is unfathomable to not think of one without the other in my case - why the mere timbre of any sound can be broken down via Fourier Analysis into sine and cosine waves; such is merely one example. There are many other applications as well; it is this that compels me to study both with such fervor.
Now, if I haven't bored you yet, who the (censored by aliens - darn them!) am I? I'm a little guy. I'm only 5'5" tall, and weigh about 165 pounds. In real life, I am very polite, considerate, passionate, loving, and peaceful to others; however, I have a horrible temper for which I have been working on. I assure you, reader, that no person would ever get hurt physically or emotionally (unless I say something for which I don't know it is wrong or hurtful to say), but things will break.
I guess that is all for now, as it is 2:30 in the morning, and even though I'm an evening person, there is that necessary distraction called sleep that beckons me further into the immaterial world of dreams. Perhaps I'll see you there? Who knows what bestows one in the realm beyond the physical? Take care for now.
I'm Karen. Most of my online friends call me Jazzy or Keyz.
I'm a musician and love to learn to play new instruments. I love all things about music, playing several instruments, and music theory but know very little about musicians or who sings what song. I can probably play the song on several instruments but will never have any idea who performed it.
I'm a cancer survivor. I'm quite proud of that. I have beat Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 4b twice and survived two bone marrow transplants since 2003.
I'm in college majoring in Music Therapy. That is like a music/psych degree. I'm a Junior.
Um... single, no kids, dating a really great NT guy. It's kind of funny because he is Mr Popularity and I'm this goofy social misfit, but he is pretty awesome about learning how to communicate with me. We got through the stage where I drove him absolutely insane, so it seems promising.
Uh... can't think of anything else about me that anyone on here would find remotely interesting, so signing off for now.
Not much to say about me, really.
My name is secret. That much I will tell you. If you really want to call me something, I guess "Abe" would work. Other functioning names would be most names from Mythology. I have brown hair, which reaches my neck, almost my shoulders. I wear all-black. My friends joke about me being 2D, which is actually close to the truth. I am 1.7m tall, and weigh about 45kg (yes I use metric). I am partially ambidextrous (although the non-ambidextrous part is right-handed). I am, as my username suggests, tripolar. I guess others may call that impossible, but I have three personalities. Actually, it's one personality and three masks (possibly more, but three main masks at least). But yeah, that makes me tripolar by my logic. My sister says I have an unnamed condition on the autism spectrum. I hope they don't name it after the Doc. It's my syndrome, not his/her syndrome. Call me egoistic if you want, but it's the truth.
I am a great mix! A 64th Cherokee, a 32nd Jew, half Norwegian, possibly a 16th French, some unknown number German. Some other stuff in the mix too. Anyways, I am a whole Me. Phlegmatic, by the way.
I like playing Games, mostly RTS and the ones with upgrades. Lots of upgrades. I am obsessed with upgrades. GEEF UPRADEH! I also like Mythology.
I suddenly feel like asking a question: If the BIOS from a US PS2 gets added to the BIOS of an European PS2 or vice versa, will said PS2 be able to play both US and Europe games? Warning: Answering this question might make people think of you as a geek until the day you die.
Some people think of me as a stereotypical emo, but I just like the color black. I do NOT cut myself, nor do I harm myself intentionally in any other way. I also like the taste of blood. It tasteth good. Thou art not getteth any more information from me.
EDIT: Forgot to mention: Jeg er Norsk! (decode that, suckah!)
