why not say congratulations to them both? It's not like she's not lucky to have him in her life... to be honest, they should both consider themselves fortunate in life...

Congratulations!! If you haven't found it yet, www.offbeatbride.com is a wonderful blog, the forum is so helpful, and her book is excellent.

My boyfriend and I are engaged to be married next June and we are looking ideas for the wedding. Here is what we decided on so far

* Ceremony and reception at the same place
* There will be a minister officiating the ceremony
* Colors will be purple and black (Purple for Western Illinois University and black for Northern Illinois University, my two schools)
* Flowers will be iris (my sorority flower) and white rose (my friends' fraternity flower)
* The wedding will be on a weekday (as it is cheaper to rent the place)
* First song that we will dance to is "Love Story" by Taylor Swift

I do need more ideas to plan the wedding, especially what type to have.

Congratulations. I also got married in June. I picked the 20th.

You might want cake and food.

My mom helped me out with the wedding and everyone socialized and talked and ate. People kept taking pictures of me and my husband so we were in the center of attention. I was surprised I handled this all well. I thought I was going to be upstairs with the laptop and watching Benny & Joon because the socializing and the talking get too much. I also did well with touching.

Do you have anyone who can help you? You need to make a list first who you want to invite, then find a place to rent and then find a minister for that day. Then you order the catering and the cake and invitations.

It all matters what order you do it in and you need to find a day where it's open for you to rent the place and then you order invitations. There are even wedding planners out there who help people plan their weddings. My mom helped me. It was very stressful and ugh all those decisions to make.

Marshall and I are leaning towards having a informal ceremony with a potluck reception. We are doing this because neither of us do like to dress up and we're paying for the wedding. As for the cake, I might go with a large sheet cake instead of the tiered cake due to costs.

I will check out the blog to get some ideas on what to do for the wedding. One idea that I discussed with my fiance is to donate the money from the dollar dance (dance with the bride and groom for a dollar) to a charity.

Congradulations to you both! I ask that God bless you both, that your marriage be happy & full of spirit and commitment for its entirety.

Why not check out some blogs and some books? Look on Amazon for the highest rated/most reviewed. Minnow down the list to the Top 5 or so. You can probably get through 100+ pages & see what you can pick out to do. Remember though, whatever you don't get on the first time through you can do again later! Recommitments (i forget the word, but you probably know) can be done starting from the first year after you get married.
Do what your budget allow and have fun!

May God Bless you both.

First of all, congratulations! Whatever my opinion may be, it is YOUR wedding, so first and foremost it should reflect who you and your fiance are, and help create memories that will always be special to you.

That said, on to my opinion.

I've been to one wedding that had a potluck reception and, well, I found that strange, as did many of the other guests. I think it is better to offer the level of food you can afford than to ask for potluck. I've been to many that had just the cake, and that works really well if you pick the right time of day.

With your color selection I think an after dinner wedding with dessert reception, and maybe some wine and cheese, could be really cool. I have zillions of ideas on decor that are very low cost yet classy, if you go that route.

I've noticed it's become popular to get a small, pretty "show" cake but actually serve sheet cake.

I just saw pictures from a wedding that did cupcakes on a stand. It was quite cute! That might be something a friend or relative could do for you, as their gift.
