Alternative words for 'boyfriend/girlfriend'.

The word 'boyfriend' or 'bf' really irritates me when i'm talking of my other half.
In real life, it's not so bad because I don't know anyone so it is him who is introducing me to others, so I never really have the problem.
And to people who I know really well I just use his name because they know who he is.

But when talking of him on a forum, or an e-mail to someone I don't know so well I dislike using the word 'boyfriend' for some reason, I think it doesn't convey how much I love him, or how serious we are - but we're not engaged or anything, so fiance or husband is not right either.

I know it's not a serious issue or anything, but it's something that irritates me - so I wondered what words other people use instead?

Partner or significant other tends to work, a few of my friends in the UK refer to their partners as "my other half" so perhaps you could just call him that.

Him indoors

The light of my life

The yang to my yin

some guy I know

The one I love

That geezer I'm shacked up with

I agree with Wolfheart. Those are the two that I prefer to use, though "Beloved" works, too.

You could refer to him as:

Man-thing
Man property
Pet man
Man-toy
Mah biiitch
Whipped one
That thing that happens to be attached to my current penis
etc
