It was not easy being half Japanese back in the 80s. Anyone remember how Americans demonized and boybotted Japanese products in the 80s? Many Americans downright hated not only Japanese people, but all East Asian people. They treated me like trash. Now everyone loves Japanese people because of anime and video games. And they are convinced they like Japanese culture because of anime, which horribly misrepresents it.

I remember that. People were blaming the Japanese for producing better cars, and hurting the American automobile industry. Since then, most of us have grown to love Japanese cars. There was also the accusation that Japan wasn't importing enough American rice. No-one seems to care any more.

At the conclusion of World War II, when preparing for the American occupation, a lot of Japanese were worried that the American soldiers would be raping and marauding (because this was what Japanese soldiers did wherever they went). So, the Japanese proactively set up brothels outside the American bases. And, most soldiers thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and hadn't experienced anything at all similar back home.

I watched your Teddy Bear movie. It was brilliant.

For one thing, I had a Swedish mother, who was just as creepy as Dennis' mother, and who used a lot of the same techniques on me, only moreso. I thought that my mother was unique, but she would have fit in perfectly with the Dennis' family. Maybe this is a common feature of Scandinavian mothers?

I wonder why someone who looked like Dennis wouldn't have Danish women all over him? Well, yes, there is his mother. But, he was able occasionally to get out of her sight.

Thailand is a very lovely place--very much as depicted in the film.

Enjoy yourself there!

Once I tell men I'm half Korean I get tons of wow girl you must be hot.

well, for the folks who are not happy with white women and for the kpop lovers out there you must be hot, and yeah it's a mistake to think that all women must be automatically hot just because they are korean, japanese, etc.

Anime and video games represent as much about Japanese culture as Marvel Comics, DC comics, and Star Wars represent American Culture. Little to none they are just products nothing more nothing less.

I always thought JAV represented japanese culture :P

Thai wives do seem to be quite an item in Scandinavia. Here is a trailer for a Norwegian documentary.

It looks like quite a change: tropical Thailand to rural Norway. They seem for the most part to be quiet, nice men who, for whatever reason, do not form relationships with their own countrywomen. Thailand seems to have a fair number of women who are more than willing to pick up the slack.

That "Thai to Thy" documentary above begins

Quote:
In North Jutland 575 women live in Thai-Farang marriages. 15 years ago there were hardly any. But Sommai was there....

Then the documentary proceeds to demonstrate how Sommai goes about finding Danish husbands for friends and relatives back home.

So, you might consider approaching Thai women in the USA, and asking them if they have any friends or relatives who might like to marry you.

The same thing is happening in Singapore: Vietnamese wives are finding Singaporean husbands for friends and relatives in Vietnam, and cutting into Singapore's matchmaking business.
