I HATE pet names. They are weird and make no sense. Especially when I barely know the guy who is saying them.

I have recently re-joined the hoards of people on online dating and am talking to 3 guys right now. The most promising of which unfortunately lives on the other side of the state (and for Texas that is a long distance). But one of the guys I am talking to and most of the guys who send out "Hey" messages call me babe, or sugar, or honey-pie.

I DO NOT LIKE!! !! !

Why do people feel like they should be used? I respond to my name, not some contrived word that is not associated with me.

At least they're not taking to you like you are a baby or a pet - you know, baby talk?

I swear to god the next person who does that to me, I am just going to punch them in the face.

I'm not a fan of them either.
Put a note on your profile/s saying that you hate them and won't respond to anyone who uses them.

^^^
I will if you wish. [if it wouldn't gross you out] I like it when people call me terms of endearment, I've gotten to experience that relatively seldom in my life, until recently.

I know how you feel. It's weird for me, too. Especially when it feels like there's no real meaning or thought behind it, it's like a replacement for your name but impersonal and very..not unique? For lack of a better description.

Some nicknames in general can be annoying. I have a strong disliking for being called Jen, but it's as if everyone feels the need to shorten my name with whatever they'd like. If they would just ask, I would certainly allow them to call me Jenny if it's a matter of wanting to use something shorter than Jennifer, but nobody thinks to. People with commonly-shortened names tend to get the luxury of being asked what they'd prefer to be called, why can't I? Hahaha, le sigh.

Anyone who calls you babe, sugar, or honey-pie without having known you for a significant while(or even if they have lol!) is probably not worth your time. It demonstrates a lack of respect.

I called my BF once "baby" in public, and he replied "don't call me that".
It was a little bit embarrassing but I appreciate the honesty at least.

My ex-boyfriend did not like for me to call him baby too. He would actually flip out. What's that about? Well we are not together anymore anyway... Oh well...

I agree. Its irritating. I include 'dude' among the list.

I do like nicknames though.
