Okay this is a little off topic but i need help...i have this unhealthy obsession with how a particular fictional character should be...i am not romantically obsessed with the character but i dream d character to be in such a way or end up with a particular character...i imagine several scenarios for said character and if the authors story for said character doesn't end the way i imagined i get very upset and bothers me alot...i have observed others who have the same situations but they seem to say that its fiction so you can make it which way you want..but it doesn't really help me so i was hoping someone would understand this problem and help me get over it.

This is almost exactly how I feel about Scott from the Total Drama series, that it's kind of scary, LOL.

However, I don't hate on people that don't share my personal preferences when it comes to shipping him, (or shipping, in general).

All I can say is, be careful with what you wish for, because chances are if your dream couple ever does become a thing, you'll probably be in for a load of salt, (especially if things don't go the way you wanted them to).

Oh, well... At least we have fanfiction, right? :D

Character obsessions ruled my mind for years... I think I know what you are going through, and everyone finds their own way of getting over it, but for me, real life got in the way. I'm too busy living in the real world to worry about fictional people. Reality has its own problems, but it is worth it.

(I'm hoping...)

Actually typed this out on another site months ago, but I think it actually kind of relates to this:

Quote:
I ADORE this couple to bits and pieces, and I'd personally prefer these two being together over her and Duncan any day of the week... However, despite this, I wasn't too happy with some of the decisions that the writers' had made:

Firstly, they made Scott a complete idiot and Courtney's own personal "doormat", which I was not Ok with at all... Because Scott wasn't a pushover at all in season four, and to make things even more conflicting, it was pretty clear as day in his debut season that he thoroughly enjoyed bossing people around, (heck, it even said he wanted to be a CEO on his official character profile), and yet here in All-Stars, he states that he enjoys taking orders from people... I'm sorry, but you're either one, or the other! YOU CAN'T BE BOTH! See how things kind of contradict themselves here? I rest my case.

Don't get me wrong, though... There were some actual things that I liked about Scott in AS, like his sense of humor, for one thing, (although, very hit and miss at times), and I felt that his social awkwardness around Courtney was adorable, and even seemed to have its own unique charm to it.

Another thing that really bugged me about it was how rushed it was... I mean, really? Why couldn't they have just had Scott and Courtney begin interacting with each other while they were still on opposing teams? They've done that sort of thing with other couples in the past, like Aleheather, for example. The pace probably would've been a lot better that way, and their relationship could've been fleshed out a heck of a lot more, too.

These two COULD'VE been the next Aleheather if it wasn't for bad writing, and wasted potential... They could've been a real power couple, to boot.

But, no. That's not what we got...

So, negative feelings aside, these two are pretty much perfect for each other, (in my eyes, anyway). Scott and Courtney have just about the right amount of similarities and differences to really hit it off with each other, not to mention how much Scott really cares for and respects her, and I think that's what most girls would like out of a real relationship: to be cherished and loved, no matter the flaws you may have... And that's just how Scott views Courtney: he's willing to open up to her and just accept her for who she is, hefty baggage and all. Isn't that how most relationships are?

But, yeah. Mine definitely stuck out compared to the rest of the peoples' answers, (in my opinion, anyway).

I really don't know why I overanalyze things like this, I just do. :?

The author wrote the story and owns it as written. So part of what you are doing is story critique. That of itself isn't ba. It's just the getting emotionally involved/upset about it, that is a problem.

Once a story is published however, its inevitable that fans will alter it in their mind, in interpretation, or even delve into fan fiction. This bugs a lot of authors.
