What are first dates like?
I've had many different types of first dates. Most common is a drink or two at cafe or quiet bar. Other ones I can think of were: Dinner at restaurant, dinner & movie, bar hopping, zoo, walking around a town...Sometimes it will just be one drink and goodbye, other times it will last many hours and maybe multiple locations or activities.

What do you talk about?
It depends on how open my date is. I try to talk about "important" stuff asap (if we haven't already beforehand) like thoughts on kids, politics, religion, etc etc. Also banter and whatever random things come up. Hopefully there will be a topic we get stuck on for a while and maybe even get into a good, thorough debate. My preference is to talk about our opinions on things, as that's how I like to get to know about a person quickly.

What usually tends to go wrong?
Nothing. They are usually fine, or good. Most of the time, though, I learn enough to know that I'm not attracted to them (or vice versa) or that we are not compatible. Nothing wrong with that.

What kind of people do you find that you tend to "click" with?
People similar to me. Deep thinkers. Rational thinkers. Calm, sensible people. Introverts.

Interesting ... I often tend to feel bored or disconnected right away. Nothing may go wrong and I'll still feel that way...

They ran the gamut from meeting at a coffee shop to and all-night exercise in recreational coital activity.

Just about everything except politics and religion.

The worst that happened was that we finished our coffee, thanked each other for showing up, and then went our separate ways.

Intelligent misfits.

Of course, all of the above was before I met my wife -- she's the only one I date now.

Yeah that happens to me too. I don't really see that as the date "going wrong", as that's how most social interactions are for me (disconnected, at least). Those would be the dates that only last one drink, and where they don't seem willing to talk about interesting/useful stuff.

Also...some people need some prodding to get them to open up more and be more "interesting" (for want of a better word). They might not be against it, but are stuck in the rituals and 'rules' of dating and don't expect their date to want to talk about the deep stuff. I just go ahead and surprise them with tricky questions and see how they react

Both sides are usually really awkward because neither of us know what the other person is or isn't okay with. After a little while I'll usually try to loosen up and start trying to be funny, which will either have her rolling on the ground laughing, or making excuses about why she has to leave right this very second. There is no middle ground with my sense of humor. Either way, the date ends and they never text or call again. The end.

They usually go well for me. The guys i've asked afterwards how they perceived me have said that I seemed a bit shy and nervous but they took that as nothing but first date-nerves. I usually go out to have coffee with someone on a first date.

The ones I click with on a deeper level (we can talk easily and understand each other) are usually either other aspies or NTs with aspie-traits but I get along with others too it's just that it doesn't feel as relaxed to talk to them in my opinion.

I get really nervous before first dates to the point where I feel sick which ruins the whole experience but I have learned that it's only my nerves and that I will feel good a while into the date. I also tend to be very self-concious so when I get home I have no idea what my impression of the person I went out with even is because of that which can be very frustrating.

I get that. I usually vibe with adhd people more than HFA people tbh

I was silent in my first date. Even I didn't eat anything. LOL

We just meet and have the sex we agreed to have. Sometimes we even exchange first names and phone numbers.

First dates for me are usually incredibly awkward. I struggle to think of anything reasonably intelligent to say.
