Ah, it seems that we're rolling ever closer to the day of the year that I dislike the most. To those of us who have never experienced a truly meaningful relationship, Valentine's Day is a cruel reminder of what we lack. To those who are in relationships, it is an obligation to cough up money in an attempt to "prove" your love for your significant other.

As someone who is obsessed with saving money, I harbor a great deal of disdain for the large number of holidays that seem focused exclusively on convincing consumers to part with their precious currency. Does anyone else feel this way? Is anyone else particularly bitter about not being in a relationship during this time of year? Feel free to rant in this thread. Misery does love company, after all.

I did some research, and it turns out that no one has a clue who St. Valentine was, why he was sainted, or why he has his own holiday. And when it comes to holidays that involve candy, I'll take Halloween over those stupid little heart-candies any day.

History of Valentines Day

http://www.theholidayspot.com/valentine ... entine.htm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jay I understand where you're coming from. I know a lot of people who think Valentines Day is just another day for businesses to make that extra buck! Special occasions and holidays aren't what they use to be a long time ago. Back then everything was so simple. Nowadays its all about the mighty dollar! Which can bring many people down and be turned off by the special day all together. These occasions weren't meant to make people sad they were meant to make people happy.

Whatever happened to happiness without luxuries?

This V-day I'm going out with someone special and get this? We're both broke this coming week. Its our love that will bring us together. Everything else will become "secondary." The way it should be for us and for everyone else!

To those who have nobody this Valentines Day.... Why not make this day for yourself? Do whatever it is you want to do and most importantly be proud you did it!

Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to spend the day working rather than doing things that I want to do on February 14th. Perhaps next year.

Incidentally, I wonder who the people who have chosen the third poll option are. I suppose they think it's safe as long as they're anonymous. I seriously doubt anyone is really that masochistic..

I didn't vote because I don't really care about Valentines Day. I think it is sort of stupid how people get so worked up about it. I'm not dating anyone, but if I were I don't think I would do anything out of the ordinary on that day.

To me Valentines day is a crock of utter rubbish.

I'd never celebrate anniversaries unless I was married.

Even in a relationship i'm totally not into it.. It's too soppy and sensitive.. 2 things that I don't like about relationships.

I might make some funny cards and random stuff to give to people for a joke. :D

I like Valentine's Day. We never got caught up in the whole racket of costly gifts and tons of candy. When I was a kid, my mom would sit down with my sister and me and cut out valentines from red and pink paper, lots of glitter, white paper doilies, etc. One for everyone in the family, grandparents, too. It was fun. On Valentine's Day when we got up for school, there would be a small heart shaped box (same box re-used every year) with a handful of candy inside next to each of our breakfast cereal bowls. I do the same with my kids.

My hubby and I never exchanged expensive gifts. Just a favorite candy bar and a card. Sometimes a Valentine balloon or other small token, but not always. Simple and sweet. :D

What is this "Valentine's Day" you speak of? No one told me there was a holiday in February...

I'm alone; I'm pathetic; ergo, I dislike my Valentine's Day situation. It looks like I'm without companionship of the opposite sex for my 20th year.

I picked the third poll! LOL!! I picked it because I took it as sarcasm and I find it amusing when people get bitter over, a day, of the year! Sorry, but that's just me! :P

Jay, I hope you at least have a nice day at work this Monday! I'll be working too, so my evening will be cut short.

I don't feel sorry at all for anyone that gets upset over Valentines day. In my opinion is the stupidest and most pointless holiday of the year.

Why do some people always have to have a boy or girlfriend to be complete?

Sorry but people that think like that annoy me over most others.

I see stupid 14 year olds with boys and they go all emotional when their kiddy relationship spits up, they can't cope, they're so miserable.

please.

/end rant

Note: This is not directed at any of you I just felt the need to vent my feelings.

For some, they fake it to fit in, but for most, it's human nature.

Some aspies are in the unfortunate position of feeling as lonely as an NT while not being able to do anything about it as an aspie.
