I would, but that's because I am desperate. I would much prefer a nice aspie girl. I just think an aspie-aspie relationship is more likely to succeed than an aspie-NT relationship. Am I right? 8O

i do believe we've had this one before... ;)

it's about the person, and you can't generalise about anybody, really, whether they have AS or not. everyone is an individual. i've done both, and i can't say as it was any different - relationships require learning about the other person, and both of you learning "how to fit round each other" (a phrase my ex used once, which i think is rather nice).

people seem to think that having a partner with AS would make it easier. i can see why, but i can also see the pitfalls. as i said - it's about you as two individuals, not about labels.

the most successful AS/NT relationship i know is two friends of mine, who've been married for nearly 25 years. they are polar opposites - she's a raving extravert empath, and can't think logically to save her life (he's the one with AS, although it's my "diagnosis", if you like). they obviously get along, though. and she knew nothing about AS before i told her.

who knows...?

I voted other. I am not completely opposed to dating an NT, but I would strongly favor an ASD girl. In the few months I have been on this site, I have met more cool females here than I have in person over 23 years.

Not all NT's are unaccepting, so definitely yes.

I would, because the only female Aspie I know is in another school and apparently dislikes me.

The only girl I ever kissed definitely didn't have AS, but she was still a kind of off the wall person so she was good for me. She had a personality similar to me.

Well the father of my boys that I live with is an NT. I didn't know I was Aspie till about 30 years of age and as I didn't know what Aspergers/Autism was much before my son was diagnosed in 2003, kinda don't get much choice on whether you date an NT or not when you barely know what defines your own life let alone looking to pick apart someone else just to date them. Honestly I doubt you could choose AS vs NT to fall in love with, you just fall in love.

I would, but they would have to be more than just eye candy. That will get no one very far.

Although you do not get a choice, if you look at it logically there is no right answer anyway.

While Aspies would understand each other better, they will also share the same problems. A non-Aspie though would be able to help by handling situations which you could not.

But everyone is different (which is why people are so difficult to understand) and so I do not think you can easily divide them into AS and NT in any meaningful way.

Michael.

I'm not sure what to answer. I've never dated so I wouldn't know what people are like on a date. I'd probably prefer someone who understands me and I can understand them.

Um...

Would I date a bowl of alphabet soup? What is this need to classify everyone? There's wierd people, stupid people, tall people, short people, fat people, loud people, hyper people....
I don't like this NT, PDD, ASD, AHDH classification when it gets too far as to be discriminatory.
I feel they are necessary because people in each class can identify with and help each other, not alienate themselves from the other groups... We're all people for f**k sake!

I would like to date a person, how about that?

Exactly! Me too! Well, that's provided he shares similar physical/mental/intellectual/emotional traits, plus bathes regularly, dresses a bit oddly, has an "off" sense of humor, doesn't mind dealing with an utter whacko...

Yeah. Not gonna happen, is it? Didn't think so. I give up.
