Is it water that he doesn't like, or soap?

I wash with just water, staying wet long enough to scratch off my dead skin cells. I don't use soap, except in the kitchen when washing greasy dishes and when brushing my teeth.

I like body odor, if the person is clean inside. I eat lots of raw fruit and veggies. Sometimes, especially in winter, I go several days without bathing, until my skin is clogged with dead cells, at which point I wash them off.

I also use one of several perfumes I make, which are mixtures of essential oils and jojoba.

I shower nearly every day. If I am not going outside on the weekend or something, then I just let it slide and don't shower... but after one day of these I start to smell pretty rank so I do the best thing and shower up.

Its mostly my hair though, I don't like it when my hair gets all greasy and I need to shower to make everything feel right.

I like being in the shower, or even better in a bath. But for some reason I don't like the shower hitting my face. Or even any water hitting my face. I rarely actively wash my face, which is a problem since I had and do have a fair amount of acne. But its just something I really find uncomfortable.

If my face smelled I probably would bother with it, but its not that big of a deal.

I think if you try to explain to someone who doesn't shower that the odor they give off is annoying in the same way something they hate is annoying. Maybe they would understand. But it might be a hard habit it break since if you are obsessed with something... showering is the furthest thing from your mind. If I am thinking about something or just staying inside I don't usually think about showering... unless I have to leave the house...

So many ASers have posted on WP saying they don't care whether they make ppl gag on the bus...it might not work even then!

No not all ASers, just more than I'd like.

I have a weird thing about showers. I just don't like them. I hate the feeling of water on my body.. I love baths but that's because I'm fully submerged and can't feel the water in its individual drips or whatever. Only the past few months have I HAD to shower due to the lack of a bath in my student house.

Even if I have the chance to bathe, I don't really feel dirty until my hair gets greasy, so I don't bathe for a few days anyway. I regularly wash my face, but with facewipes 'cause I hate my hair getting wet.

Also I can't have a bath without washing my hair because I don't feel right with dry hair in the bath... I think it's because I prefer to be completely wet or completely dry, hate being in between. As I don't see the point of washing your hair every day if it's not dirty, I don't bathe or shower every day.

I think that makes sense. (the post not the bathing)

Am I one of the few with AS that actually enjoys taking a shower? The only problem that I have is the water has to be incredibly hot. Water at room temperature is too cold for me.

Is it the sensory integration dysfunction aspect which makes showering and other physical sensations so uncomfortable? I can understand if it is someone trying to touch or hold me, but not if it's water or similar fluids. It's more a temperature thing for me.

The only thing I can think of to convince him to shower regularly is that it will be for his benefit when looking for a job.

to dry hands to turn pages.

I personally don't care about my hygiene
I sometimes even don't take a bath for a month. It's not like I play in the mut to get a disease from dirt.

I typically bathe everyday. My routine would be that I brush and floss and mouthwash after lunch when I have time or remember. I either have my shower mid day or about an hour before I go to bed. I always brush/floss/listerine before taking my shower or before going to bed. I clean my ears with Q-tips every other day, or if I can't remember whether I did it the day before I do it anyway. I shave the stubble around the edge of my beard about every 1 to 2 days. I trim my beard and mustache about every two weeks. I trim my nose hairs when ever it is needed. Yes I trim my nose hairs, the alternative is I become Bobobo which is not a good thing now is it?

I also run a comb through my hair when I need it. I apply deodorant every day as needed. I use some Oxy pads on my face everyday when I remember. On rare occasions I'll toss on some aftershave. And that is pretty much it.

I don't like very much to take showers, there's many other things that I'd rather do. But, when I was in college I had a roommate who's prolly an Aspie who hated to shower and would go for a week straight without showering. That was hard to live with. Ever since then, I've been extremely sensitive to smells, and fanatically take regular showers.

In winter, I shower every other day, unless I have to go out. I love good smelling soaps and soft terry cloths. As for the shower itself, I hate having water beating on my skin. And the freezing cold when emerging from said shower. So, I bought a small space heater, which I run for about ten minutes before showering. I turn on the water, adjust the temperature, and then step in the shower only when it is already running, approaching the spray of water gradually. That lessens the unpleasant impact of the water. And when I'm done, the bathroom is steamy like a sauna, perfect for moisturizing the skin.

I take a hot shower everyday only once a day, and it takes me about 20-30 minutes. There are sometimes that I feel too lazy but I always end up doing it.
The bad thing is that I always get prune fingers after the shower

Ditto that. I have sensory problems as soon as I get up in the morning from feeling dirty. Maybe from sweating during the night and having the residue still on me? Whatever the case, I can hardly function normally until I have it cleaned off of me. Also I have sinus problems and usually I have congestion in my throat and nasal cavity when I wake up. The steam from the shower helps to loosen that up as it's pretty uncomfortable to have that stuff in there clinging to me.

Also I like the warm water quite a bit so I am notorious for staying in there for 20 minutes or more.

I suppose we're all different but I don't think I could even fathom going 4 or 5 days without cleaning up.

one of my biggest struggles with my AS bf is that he doesn't like to shower. we actually had a huge fight over it yesterday.
it has been something that has been bothering me for quite a while, and i have addressed it very diplomatically.
i have never dealt with someone like this or a problem like this.
is it common?
more so with men?
Is there a particular reason for you to tolerate someone who goes through life with a stench that could knock a buzzard off of a s**t wagon? 8O That is a sincere question although I will just leave it alone if you say MYOB. As for my own hygiene habits, the only time I will go more than 24 hours without a shower is if I am camping or asked to work overtime late in the day.

Oops! Just realized that I posted in a year old thread. If you get home and take off your skivvies
and toss them across the room and they stick to the wall, then maybe it's time to take a shower and put on clean skivvies (sans nicotine stains). This thread is hilarious. maybe , given the topic
under discussion, this could be made into a sticky  .

I shower daily, brush my teeth daily, and clean my ears with Q-tips after every shower. I only shave about once a week, unless there's some type of special occasion.
