Not only are dress, "stylish" shirts expensive, they're very uncomfortable. For one thing, unless it's the middle of winter, dressing up makes me too hot. I also hate wearing long sleeved shirts. I just don't like the feel of it. Now with dress shirts, you also have that horribly uncomfortable collar. With the exception of going to a job interview, I'm a jeans/T-shirt guy.

Unless you have Hulk Hogan arms, short sleeves are a detriment.

Try to inure yourself ("toughen up") to the discomfort of collars and long sleeves to a point where you don't notice it, that's what I had to do. Also match your colors together.

I'm good at matching my colors, but dress style shirts aren't going to happen. Not only are they uncomfortable, they're also very expensive, and since I need to shop at a big and tall store, I don't have a good selection anyways. I'm not going to spend $50+ for a shirt I don't even like.

What's your size? I'm 5'11" and 300 lbs (significantly overweight but not necessarily tall), and I'm still within the range that places like walmart, target, et. al. sell (with some extra sizes on upward). I got this one blue dress shirt and maroon tie that actually surprisingly go well together, along with a pair of black slacks, all for around $40 for the whole outfit (oh and a belt was included in there too). I, like you, don't particularly enjoy dressing up, but unless you're over 6'6" and 400 pounds, there are general stores that will have at least something that fits you, for a lot less cost...

I'm 6'6", about 365 pounds with a size 16 shoe.

Whoa! Cut your calories down to less than 2000 per day and you will see a difference.

Not me. Their idea of big and tall for a shirt is a 3x. I'm a 4x Tall. When it comes to dress shirts, Walmart doesn't have anything close to the right arm length and collar size. Not to mention being "tall" enough so I can actually tuck them in.

Try to shrink horizontally! :D That height you have is a huge plus for you.

But is there someone out there that would prefer me? I'm sort of with Bataar on this one... if a woman likes me, then something is just wrong with her...

as long as you feel that way you put yourself in the "i wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member" bind. you won't respect a woman who likes you anyway.

Toad, you have to work on your self-esteem somehow. everyone has flaws and everyone has assets. find what you treasure about yourself. right now even if you had a woman in your life, the negative view you have of yourself could ruin things.

It's not a matter of just having low self esteem or being depressed, but rather being able to recognize reality and not live in denial. I can't speak for Toad, but it seems he and I are in agreement. I've read about what attracts women, what they look for in a potential date/boyfriend/husband and I don't have anything to offer in those areas. I don't need low self esteem just to recognize reality.

I feel the same way much of the time like I'm inferior to other men.

Self esteem shouldn't be to do with a potential date. Thats why its called Self Esteem. It comes from within. Are you not good at anything? Sometimes I feel like that. It is a sign of depression also.

It has to come from somewhere at first. We aren't born confident.

Thats why I asked if he was good at anything. Also depression causes it. My two bits of advice would be go to a doctor and ask about anti depressants, and figure out what you're good at, do it well and take pride in it.

you insult women and you insult yourself when you say that.

we're not robots and we're not all the same.

if the world is out to get you, no one is going to talk you out of it. it's not denial to think well of yourself; it's a responsibility you have to yourself. it's denial to think the world imposed the negativity on you.

ron jeremy is the ugliest man alive and he gets laid all the time.

don't even tell me it's due to his penis size, either. no woman wants something the size of a house pet inside her. 8O

i'm gonna go wash my brain out with soap. yeccch.

I'm good at Magic the Gathering. I can build and design my own winning decks. I do well in Magic tournaments. I'm also good at strategy/war board games. I pick up and understand the rules easily and am able to play well. I'm good at video games. Not multiplayer/competitive games, I don't play those. I play single player, story driven games. None of those have ever provided me opportunities to meet women. None of those provide me with subjects I'd be comfortable talking about with women met in "everyday" type situations.
