Physical Beauty is Temporary
I think in this case, it is nature's norms and values
you better get out there and hunt some zebra then!
Thankfully, the urge to hunt is not quite as strong as the human sex drive. People can easily satisfy the former by playing World of Warcraft
but if men only want women if they are young and hot, women will only want men who are good hunters.
Men do not only want women who are young and hot. But men have a clear preference for women within the reproductive age range. Of course there are exceptions, such as gerontophiles. Or gays, for that matter. I'm only talking about the middle portion of the bell curve, as usual.
No matter if we like it or not, sexual attraction is tightly linked to the biological imperative of procreation. Therefore, the ability to procreate and the likelihood of having healthy offspring determines what is considered attractive.
Men usually remain procreative for their entire adult life, but the likelihood of fathering healthy children becomes considerably lower at an advanced age. There is a reason that overtly sexually active old geezers are traditionally considered dirty / creepy old men. As for women... well, there is menopause, and that was that.
Of course senior citizens still have sex to express their love for one another (probably aided by mental images of better days, as well as little blue pills), and some even manage to find a new partner within their own age range. But one has to accept the fact that the time when people turn their heads in the street and suitors fall over each other can't last forever.
no.... some people honestly do find older people attractive. you can talk biology but not everyone is controlled by instinct to that degree.
Are you controlled by instinct? Can you change your sexual orientation for example? If you happen to be bisexual, the question is moot of course But if you have a clear gender preference, you are as much instinct-driven as everybody else.
Women naturally have a larger age range since men don't go through menopause. That's why Sean Connery is still considered attractive (that and the fact that he has aged really well).
loads of men say they have crushes on helen miren and angelica huston.

people's preferences in terms of who the yfind attractive is quite fluid. for example, i sincerely doubt that you still prefer the exact same women that you liked at age 18. it changes through a person's life.
i don't know about sexual orientation. we are referring to preferences for attraction.

I have also done some research in this area. I like to know why I think and feel the way I do. As it turned out, I'm not a complete pervert, but a fairly typical male specimen except for my bisexuality and Asperger's.

and the menopause is there to stop women dying in childbirth as they age as their body weakens so that they can live to bring up their grand children, which suggests they are getting shagged or they would not need to be infertile. biologically older men dont need to be alive lol. Research shows old men have crap sperm which leads to deformities and miscarriage.

When I was 13, I physically responded to nearly all girls and women within the reproductive age group and with a certain waist-to-hip ratio. My physical response has not changed one bit since then, only my mental preference has. I simply couldn't see myself with a giggling teenager at my age. And of course I know that my chances are quite limited nowadays (I gave up all hope when I lost my hair. I'm no Sean Connery ). That's the only real difference for me.
Back in the day, it was quite common for older men to take ridiculously young brides after their previous wife had died giving birth to their 7th child. Those were horrible times of course, but it shows that as far as physical traits go, male preference doesn't change all that much over the years. All those "Barely 18" porn sites are not only frequented by 18 year old men.
I find it important in this context because you implied in two posts that you are not a slave to biology or driven by instinct. But if you can't change your sexual orientation at will, it would indicate that this is not entirely the case.
i think that attraction is more complex than the 'biological imperative' would imply. we are not automatons who are born with certain preferences that linger for a whole lifetime. with individual complexity comes variation. there are definitely trends and averages, but that does not equal universality. if it did i would never get shagged

what i was actually getting at... is that phrases like 'aging WELL' are misnomers. a more accurate phrase would be aging BADLY' because youthful-looking well-preserved old people are not aging naturally. they are defying nature and therefore not aging well at all.

It's a bit of a mystery how or why menopause has evolved, because the average life expectancy used to be quite low until the 20th century (link). Neolithic women had a life expectancy of 20 years at birth and rarely lived to see their grandchildren. Medieval women had grandchildren at age 26-28, and were likely to die before age 40.
You're correct about the higher risk of defects and miscarriages though. This is also the case for women. The risk of both miscarriages and congentical defects is already increased at age 30, and rises exponentially from then on in. It is therefore quite worrisome that women have their first child so late in life nowadays. Of course one can lower this risk by picking a young partner, which again demonstrates why youth equals attractiveness.

bush tribes of the kalahari have lots of women in their 70s
If you put it like that, I have to agree I bet those who are said to have aged well feel really well though. If you view aging as a terminal disease, people who age well have a better prognosis.

That is quite astonishing for hunter-gatherer tribes. The world-wide average life expectancy for women is 69.5 years, but only due to the long lifespan in developed countries. I'd expect it to be lower than that for tribal people.
not astonishing. people' lifespans shortened dramatically when they formed sedentary agricultural societies.

not really, they eat and behave like people were evolved to, so logically should live the best/healthiest lives for humans.
people have only lived for 30-40 thousand years in europe but in the kalahari for millions.

I have I older female friend (about in her mid 40s) am attracted to she very beautiful, I was very close to dating her but then again every single hot blooded man was after going out with her after she split up with her ex.
I'll show you pics of two of her famous younger relates (To be honesty am not attracted to the pair of them), I meet the pair of them before they became famous.
Both of theres women are cousin to each other, am not going to share the family relationship of my friend to the two of them I'll keep that private, tho I can see a bit of my friend's looks in the two of them.

To me, it depends on why they look youthful and well preserved. Is it because they never ate junk food and exercised all their lives ? Is it because they never smoked and lived far away from sources of enviromental toxins? Is it because they are lucky enough to have been born with excellent immune systems so they stayed healthy? There are some people who reach old age looking far younger and better preserved simply because luck, nature and healthy habits made them that way. There's nothing unnatural about that.
