''just 32.1 percent of people with autism had had a partner and only 9 percent were married.''

32% currently have a partner, not have ever had. Out of the 68% who said no, how many had previously been in a relationship?

if ASD people struggle to make friends and have a hard time socializing,
they are going to have a hard time getting dates.

Seems like a lot of AS guys probably have had a short-term girlfriend or two as a teenager, but never as an adult. Cause getting one as a teen is likely to be much easier a lot of the time in my opinion.

I didn't even have one as a teen.

However, the catch-22 of that is that getting laid is often more difficult for a teen, but getting a GF in the first place is usually a bit easier.

me either. i was tricked once when I was in 5th grade and so since that time I was suppisous of women, I also didn't have much interest in them besides non sexual crushes until 9th grade.

girls also bullied me a lot in elementary school

this thread is depressing.

I had quite a difficult time getting a date as a teenager--as I was short and young-looking. High school is truly the "meat market." Most people grow out of that as adults; they project their desire for "perfection" by the use of "crushes" on such people as movie stars, pop stars, and sports stars. Most adults do not expect to consummate their "crushes."

I did better as an adult. Most of the people I dated were not especially "socially conscious." They relied, for friendship and romance, more on common interests than how you perform on tests of etiquette. They invariably did have "crushes" on people who were "exemplars of perfection" outside of their existence--but it never got past the "crush" level for obvious reasons (e.g., they were too distant from their actual existence).

My boyfriend now I met when he was 24 and a virgin [if that's what you are getting at]. I was 23 and... not a virgin.
Didn't matter. Just saying.

[ETA: Actually he'd never kissed anyone, either]

forgot where you posted it, but ya I don't want to feel it is hopeless for me to get a girlfriend

Besides myself, I know probably about 4-5 other adult autistics irl. All of us are married. I also know as many young autistic people, mostly my relatives, but they most all are still too young to tell.

Autistic as in Autism, which is more severe than Asperger's? or something else?

Most all have Aspergers. One is undiagnosed like me. I forgot one guy in the count, a brother-in-law with more severe Aspergers. He isn't married but has had more girl friends then I can count. 8O
