I hate people who quote the bible as a reason against gay marriage. Why?

1) Because it is a ~2000 year old, outdated text
2) Because it also says that wearing mixed fabrics is a sin, among a host of other petty and hopelessly outdated laws
3) Because it says "thou shalt not lie with a man as thou would with a woman"... which implies that all Christian women ought to be celebate or lesbians, and all christian men ought to be celebate or only have sex with non-Christian women
4) Because people only use the bible as a "mask" for their own prejudices
5) Because an omnibenevolent God could have no logical reason for outlawing homosexuality (unless He also outlawed celebacy).

The only legitimate reason for opposing gay marriage is on moral grounds, not religious ones. And as far as I am aware, there are no legitimate moral objections either.

I think that the gays should legally have the right to do it if they please.
The churches also should legally have the right to refuse to recognize gay marriage as legitimate.

Two gay people should definitely be allowed to be married.

I'm a perfectly happy straight man myself, but goodness gracious, if two people are in love and they want to unify their love into a marrige, they should have the right to do so.

The religious sector detests gay marrige. Fine. Get gay couples married but just don't classify it as a wedding. Call it a legally binding partnership with all the weight and responsibility any marrige holds.

Everyone has the right to be happy.

Someone please check the tempature in Hell.

The whole hell idea is farfetched, I doubt if God were as merciful, all powerful and intelligent as the bible claims he would need a hell.

It's a joke.

"(Blank) will happen when Hell freezes over."

I believe that is the sign for Hell, MI which I can assure you freezes over almost every year without fail.

I think the quote you're looking for is Leviticus 18:22, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Darn! You are right! :D

Father Francisco might be turning around in his grave! He would die again due to my confusion. :(

Maybe I should read the Bible again. It's been a long time.

Thanks!

Also, just quickly, Pope JP II, said in one of his Motu Proprio that the rules of the Leviticus still in place... and that MP was issued just some years ago.

Soooo... the magazines that promote "How to be better in the bed" are abominations and they are inciting to sin; since they don't mention a proper way to make sure the woman gets pregnant... Strange notion, isn't it? "10 ways to make sure you get pregnant when your husband touches you!"... I don't think it would be a good selling phrase.

Because I come from a New England Catholic background , I think Fr. Francisco will have some major objections about gay marriage, but at the same time would do his best to cover for priest who indulge in under aged boys.

How's that for the hypocracy inherent in The Church?
