One tiny problem you may face there tho: your anime collection may be considered satantic and get burned.

Oops.

I'm already living there.

I actually saw a redneck get an argument with a Lebanese man and tell him "Go back to your country, you sand n****r!" at the library.

I used to watch a Japanese tv drama comedy called Monkey as a child and it was a poorly dubbed over but I loved it. It was different to all the other programs available here and we had only 3 or 4 channels then - we also had to physically get up and switch the tv over.
Not sure if this was ever aired in the US but it was in Australia. I reckon only the older ones like me will remember this.
It can be found on youtube and brings back some lovely memories. This was probably my first glimpse of another culture - not surprising I ended up appreciating Buddhist thought.

 Not to make light of something that's clearly discrimination (someone being racist in public), but this may be one of the best comments I've read all day.

And now you're being racist yourself, quite the paradox

I'm a living paradox and an anomaly.

I'd say it's more like prejudiced than racist, though. The fastest way to get me to dislike someone is for them to admit that they're a "proud redneck", so I laugh at anything that basically pokes fun at them.

I am short on time but I'll answer your first question, ms. utopia. As you can see by my avatar, I like anime as well as manga. I am not an otaku per se because I don't go around randomly speaking Japanese, I don't fanboy over Japanese foods or snacks (I honestly like Thai food more than Japanese), and I don't think Japan is the best country in the world (I am not nationalistic by any means) but I like Japan's art styles and spirituality. I like American comics such as Marvel and DC comics but I can't afford them all the time because they can get expensive. I like video games that have good stories as well as good characters as well. I also enjoy reading good sci-fi novels and listening to all sorts of music. Unfortunately, most people in the culture I live in either don't know anything about my interests or dislike them. The few that do get treated unfairly just as I do.

I see. In that case, probably you will find interesting to join manga community. Reading your hobbies and intererests, how if you get to know Asian women more? Since I think you can well relate to them.

Btw I see a new Wrong Planet member with the same interest as you. Her id is sometimeslog21. Probably you can be friends with her.

They do have red necks though... I'd say it's a close call.

I have the same prejudice, and I hardly even know what a redneck is, just saying, we need to be careful of practicing selective discrimination.

I have to admit, I'm quite jealous! I wish I hardly knew what a redneck was! I do see the point that you're trying to make, though.

Trust me, rednecks don't go to libraries for intellectual reasons. One came in because he wanted to get the key to one of our public bikes but you needed to access a website to get the kiosk code and he didn't understand that. He kept saying "I don't know nuthin' about computers! I'll take a hammer to one before I use on!" and even tried to pretend he was having trouble with the kiosk so someone else could get the code for him. Most of the time, rednecks just want to search for porn on the computers and wonder why they keep getting kicked off of them.

I am not sure how to approach your question without it being taken the wrong way. When I look around in public, it feels like most people around me already have company or they don't want to make friends, they just want to do whatever it is they came to do and leave.

Wow. I'd probably tell that guy exactly where he could've stuck his hammer if I'd been in that situation...

I used to work as a computer lab assistant on a college campus. Since one lab was used by high school students, we'd have to call the police if anyone was watching porn on those computers. If it were any other lab, we couldn't do a thing unless else someone complained it- not even kick them off of the computer! Thankfully, I never encountered anything like that at that job.

I bet there's much more sand in Texas.

I become a "red neck" after applying an aftershave.

In the head?

That would happen at the high school I went to. Sure, I looked at porn, too, but I waited until I got home to do so. I didn't want to get detention and I was actually mocked for avoiding being a trouble maker. Can you believe that? No wonder why so many teens feel so stressed and burned out. Not only are the teachers hammering lessons into their heads, the other teens are overloading their brains with all sorts of mental signals.
