I'm agnostic. Would I date a woman who is religious? Yes I would, but she would have to keep her mouth shut about religion around me. Maybe that's harsh but it's the truth. That applies to anyone. Even if it were just a friendship. I don't want to hear about your sky wizard and I won't tell you about mine unless you ask.

No offense intended towards anybody.

Why or why not?

Members who are atheist/agnostic please kindly contribute.

Yes.

Because I feel that all religions are splinters of the same tree.

I'm more concerned with how she relates to the world and to me than what faith she follows, or doesn't. Religion can influence that, positively or negatively. I would go out with a cool Christian, I wouldn't go out with a horrible one.

I don't mind agnostics, I find hardcore atheists quite tiresome though.

Since non-religious people are chipping in, I guess I'll add that I'm an atheist and I'm somewhat put off by people who have religion as a major part of their life. It makes me think that there will be arguments about spirituality later down the road. A more casual belief in God or other supernatural entities is tolerable; I could imagine myself like Nick Clegg, an atheist who married a presumably liberal Catholic. Also, political conservatives - either social or fiscal. There are two or three women I shied away from in college, and there was one woman I shied away from in school, for either appearing too religious or passionately right-wing.

On the atheist/agnostic distinction: philosophically I don't have either a strong atheist viewpoint ("I believe in the nonexistence of gods/God") or Dawkins' almost-strong atheist viewpoint ("I believe the existence of gods/God is highly improbable"), but rather a merely weak atheist viewpoint ("I don't believe in the existence of gods/God"). Some would call that "agnostic", but it's not my favourite distinction to make.

My wife would object.

That rather implies that she wouldn't mind if you dated someone of the same religion.

I would date a satanic devil worshiper if she was my type, so long as the blood sacrifice thing was kept on the down low. If we were to get married I wouldn't try to convert her, although we would discuss the futures of our children and let them decide when they were older.

And when we die, if my faith is correct, I'll fight to get her into the pearly gates, maybe see if we could get a two-for deal.

Blood sacrifice? No, satanists aren't supposed to do that! They're forbidden to harm children and animals especially! .

Oh I am fully aware of Satanism's rules, I was referring to 'devil worship', there is a difference, as Satanists will tell you. While some Satanists see it as an anti-religion religion (some are atheists or agnostics), others as an outlet to certain levels of hedonism or libertinism, both which I can respect although Satanism isn't so easily classified as this. However 'devil worshipers' are a broad faith that actually worship devils (as one would worship Christ) and in more extreme cases take part in rituals involving children or animals.

I am Catholic and would be OK with dating someone who is "Christian", but not Catholic,
since Catholicism is part of the Christian faith.

Whoever ends up dating me has to share the same political views as I do.

Would I date someone "not Catholic?"
It would depend on the religion, though.
However, no offense to anyone here, I would not date someone who is Muslim.

I am Agnostic and prefered people with a same or similar belief. However, my boyfriend is a Christian who goes to a Baptist demoninational church. And he doesn't mind my belief. But he's also not the preachy, in your face fundamentalist type either.

I'm an unconvertable, strong atheist according to how Hector put it, as I believe in the nonexistence of any god, spirituality or anything mystical. I will not dwell much on why, since that is not what this thread is about, but suffice it to say that I find people who believe in anything supernatural a bit stupid.

Any girlfriend of mine needs to be atheistic or agnostic, or else she'll drive me mad pretty quick. I'm suspect to actually throw fits over this topic.

This is what I mean about atheist arrogance. I find athiests if anything, extremly under developed and narrow minded.

Probably not the best place to argue about religion so I'm going to apologise before i get told off.

I'm a Christian. I attend an Orthodox church, but my actual beliefs differ somewhat, being closer to what my family believes, except colored by the black-and-white idealism typical of people my age.

I don't see why I would want to marry someone who wasn't a Christian, and further, I don't see why I would want to marry someone who wasn't a good Christian (always being kind and willing to give and forgive, and someone who prays and reads the Bible; other than that, it's all trimmings). And I don't see why I would want to date someone I knew I wouldn't marry, because dating is just to interview people to see whether you want to marry them.

(Then again, I also don't see why you'd want to have sex if not to procreate, and I don't see why you'd want to talk if you didn't want to discuss issues of actual interest, even if academic, fictional or otherwise irrelevant. I admit that I just might be missing something slightly important about human society, so you may want to take my views with a grain of salt.)

I am a Lutheran, and have no reservations about dating someone of another belief system. However, I don't think I would be compatible with fundamentalists of any religion.

I am a agnostic atheist and I don't believe in any form of spirituality. Given my low regard for Woo, I think it would be hard for anyone religious to live with me

Yes, but not a highly devote converter. My grandfather and certain Aithiests are plenty without a date ontop of that, who also thinks I'm screwing myself over not going "the right way".

What about those who think they have a magic book that holds all the truth, and if any new discovery contradicts the book than the observation must be false?
