Yes, there are female gays, who are not trans, as there are male lesbians. Some of either group are third gender, too, which makes the nature of their sexuality very confusing. Male lesbianism doesn't just apply to the role of pursuit in their relationships though, but can also apply to the way in which some men love a woman, and how they feel about themselves as men (sometimes more feminine or androgynous). Female gays feel that they are more masculine or androgynous sometimes, and genuinely love a man as something other than a woman.

I first heard of this phenomena from Howard Stern whom I presumed was kidding...but perhaps he wasn't. I don't normally pay attention to Stern, but his concept stuck with me.

I'm sure this can exist.

i heared about this concept in a book by doctor Gilmartin; he explains it as a straight man that acts on the female behavioral pattern in the dating scene.
in that chapter, he actually proposed that there were not just 2, but 8 genders, 9 if you include asexual.
the genders being: straight male, male pattern, straight male, female pattern (male lesbian), gay male, male pattern, gay male, female pattern, and the same set for females.

in this; the 'pattern' is how most of their sex behave, for males; it's actively chasing the women, and for women it's waiting for a man to show interest

I am completely happy/comfortable with my gender and sexual orientation though, I just seem to like some things which are more typically feminine and don't like some things that are typically masculine, especially watching sports.

I think this is what some people mean when they call themselves a ML...

yeah, i've met men like you before. it's not necessarily a sexual thing.

the idea has been around for a lot of years - i remember it from back when i was a teenager, and i'm sure it stretches back earlier than that. often, male lesbians are also quite feminist in their ideas, which makes sense as they identify strongly with women in a positive way.

There is a chart of sexual orientations on the following site, which includes Male Lesbian: http://loveshyproject.com/blog/5_nodes_of_sexuality.html

Male lesbian does not mean actual lesbian, or homosexual, or anything like that, but refers to the courtship pattern of such a male being passive, like a female, and that male lesbians tend to wish they were born a woman because courtship would be easier for them due to their passivity.

Male lesbians are love-shy, because of their passivity. As many love-shys are Aspies, it's reasonable to say that many Aspies will be male lesbians.

Good article, very interesting to read. After reading it, I would without a doubt qualify myself as a male lesbian.

It would explain a lot about me, honestly. I'm okay with my biological gender, and I'm not into other guys, but I have a lot of more feminine personality traits. I once commented to a platonic female friend that I wanted to be "swept off my feet" by someone and was told that it was a really odd thing for a straight guy to say. I'm not sure if "swept off my feet" is the right way to put it, but I've always thought it would be nice to be the pursuee instead of the pursuer in a relationship.

I had an online acquaintance once who was a male lesbian.
I can identify with him, only from the opposite perspective:
identifying as a biological female, yet having the ways of being which are associated with maleness.

Nope.

The term describes men who identify with the male *sex*, the female *gender*, and are attracted to women.

The term as I understand if specifically excludes trans men.

I used the phrase male lesbian before because I was attracted to women(some of who were kinda butch lesbians) & I felt I would of been a lot better with with relationships if I was a lesbian because I related to the women roles with relationships more
