Judging by your tone, you seem to think I'm arguing with you when I'm not at all. As I already must have said like 10 times now, this was only a joke thread in the first place, so I must ask you... Why so serious? :P

Your original post, while an obvious joke, would only have been funny if it had been true (and an original thought, which it wasn't either, but never mind that). This type of "observational humor" can't be funny when it's fundamentally false.
It's like the old joke that goes something like this:
"You know the black box they have on air planes, which records everything and doesn't break if the plane crashes... Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?"
This joke is only funny if you can't figure out that such a plane would be too heavy to take off in the first place. The joke is of such a structure that it would have to make logical sense in order to be funny, and since it fails to be logical, it fails to be funny.
Your observation about prostitution and pornography is much the same way. It's not funny, because it is simply a false and prejudiced statement, with no logical connection between set-up and punchline.
Your joke is broken.

I reckon the problem here is that you're reading way too much into a mere joke. When I first heard that airplane joke I laughed even though it doesn't strictly make sense, because jokes rarely do anyway, but if anything, that makes them even more funny.

You're broken

I don't get how photos of prostitutes wouldn't get you arrested... in the US at least :?

Now I can understand how erotic pictures of women/men in very little/no clothing who are NOT prostitutes is legal.

Well this is ironic considering how serious you're being in the other thread. :P

I think some jokes are funny exactly because you have only superficial understanding of the subject involved in the joke.

I made the greatest jokes about various groups of people when I was younger that heavily relied on stereotypes and exaggerations. In hindsight, I find that the assumption that you have to have in order to get each of the jokes (earning you a reputation as "having a sense of humor") is just so wrong and so disturbing it really isn't all that funny after all.

Argue with that

Oh yes I will argue with that, thank you.

First of all, I make no judgments against people who choose to work in erotic film or sex trade, as long as they put some thought into their decisions and some care into what situations they place themselves into. There are plenty of people who don't, but there are also people who do. Both porn and sex trade are risky businesses, but not impossible to maneuver oneself through wisely. There are some individuals in both professions who actually enjoy their work, and know how to stay reasonably clear of the risks (much like you'll find in any other line of work).

That said, and while there are similarities, there is an important distinction between the two professions, erotic film actor and prostitute.

An erotic film actor performs alongside other professional performers in front of a camera, to inspire sexual arousal in a viewing audience (this is comparable to how a comedic actor performs alongside other comedic actors in front of a camera to inspire laughter in a viewing audience).
A prostitute sells sexual favors directly to customers (this would, again replacing the sexual aspect, be more comparable to how a therapist works than how an actor works).
It's a completely different set-up. There are of course situations where the line can be blurred somewhat, and there are people who work in both professions, but the two professions are quite different on the whole.

Regardless of what your opinion is of either profession, it is unfair to say that they are the same thing.

Vince, excellent point.

I think anyone who is a connoisseur of adult material (I'm anonymous here, so I'll admit to it) can really tell the difference between an actor/actress doing a genuine effort to portray themselves as turned on, enjoying the experience vs. a prostitute who was paid some money and happened to be filmed during their act. Some of the niche material that comes from companies that go out to the 3rd world, like Thailand and the Philippines, utilizes prostitutes, and their performances are definitely underwhelming, if they actually do try to act.

That being said though, technically the OP is right. There are some retired porn professionals who essentially prostitute themselves out under the auspices of being the talent in amateur films for paying customers, meaning you as a regular person could pay a fee and have intercourse with them, as long as a camera is around and pointed in somewhat of the right direction.

Technically, they only need to masturbate to release natural sexual tension. Partner sex is optional & if your like myself find the idea of it to be repulsive . But I'm definitely not the majority and I know it...

Mastubation is one thing, but sex with a person also fulfills another sexual level. Being with someone, to experience things is great, if you like that sort of thing. Me, I wanted to have it so bad and now its done. It felt fantastic, but it hasn't fulfilled me, but only because I had to fight to get there as well as doing it too late.
