One year isn't a big deal and you did finally come out. But she really was just looking for a reason to break up with you and use that so she doesn't look like the bad guy.

You don't know that. She may have thought he was a compulsive liar.

 You lied about "ONE" year??! ! WHY?! ! Nobody likes a liar. She probably thinks you have a whole suitcase full of lies. I had a guy lie to be about his age too. I was 19. He was really 38 but said he was 28. EWWW!! !! !

10 years is a big difference compared to 1 year.

If I make excuse for myself, it is to saying that I reached an age where I will accidentally state my last year age instead of my current without realizing it.

Of course it's all speculation without the OP making an appearance, but my guess is that he saw her profile on a dating site. She specified an age range of 5 years older than her. OP lied to secure the online date.

Of course, all idle speculation.

I can see why she would break up....

The only option you have now is to explain to her exactly why you lied to her (whatever it is), the whole truth and to apologize for it.

I am not saying there's much chance that she'll return to you, but you have to do this anyways if you're man enough.

Great advice Boo.

In reference to the OP lying about being one year younger. I don't think it's that uncommon for women to lie about being younger. I've known women around that age to lie about a couple years but for some reason men don't lie like that usually

f**k my life

As insignificant as a lie this is that was bit silly really wasn't it. That said if she's chucked you without even asking why you lied in the first place (was there any legitimate reason for doing so, really?) then she might have either been looking for an easy way out or perhaps she might be a bit petulant herself.

Either way, don't do again, it's not big or clever.

Some people really are compulsive liars, and one of the warning signs will be that the person will lie about things for which lying produces no gain and the lies are easily found out.

Sounds like she got bored and just needed an excuse.

People need these excuses. In another example, the other person in a relationship might think "Gee, it's fortunate for me that the person I'm about to break up with drinks, because if he/she didn't, then he/she couldn't be an alcoholic and I'd be down to leaving him/her only because he/she got fat, and that would be shallow of me".

It could be just an excuse, then again, it's a darned plausible one.
