How about sweetheart or sweetie? Those terms apply equally to boyfriend and girlfriend.

Or, my julius. It's a borrowing from the French mon jules, which applies to any boyfriend or even any friend who's a boy.

I always had an issue with this myself, and ended up calling anyone I was dating my significant other.

I think it gets your point across. Then again we are all aspies here, so all the inflection lost talking over a text medium would probably be lost upon us anyway...

I have one friend who refers to her husband as her "boy" (they're in their 40s). I have another friend who refers to her fiancé as "my mans" (even though there's only one).

People are weird.

i just say "boyfriend". it makes me giggle a little to use that word as i am 39 years old, but the fact i giggle over it would probably give you a hint as to my level of maturity.

Despite regional interests, I'd have to stop short of "The Wolverine". :P

Yours is better. Mine does not differentiate between lovers and people sharing the rent who happen to be of the opposite sex. Yours also can be pronounced in a way to include "lick." (Was that intentional? You didn't include an emoticon.) BTW, I didn't make mine up. I don't know where it originated, though.
