It would creep me out a little, mostly because my facebook name isn't even remotely connected to my real name

That's what I do. The reason I limit my dating search to those on the spectrum is because I have trouble understanding the unwritten rules of dating, which NTs expect you to instinctively know without anybody having to tell you. Because of this, I worry that if I made one tiny mistake with them, I would be branded a stalker.

@DamienScott, I think what you did is perfectly legit, and I wish you the best of luck on all this.

@Hale_Bopp, I couldn't agree more on people branding you a creep if you look at them wrong.

Haha, well I think we had a pretty good chat. She seems pretty interesting. If anything I might make a new friend. Hopefully she doesn't find this thread and get angry. I'm not too sure how aspie women handle stuff.

If you put so much information on these profiles that they can all be linked back to each other, you can't exactly be surprised when someone, you know, links them back to each other :P

True. And a good reason why you shouldn't use your real name on Internet posts or have a very distinct username for everywhere you post...

I thought aspie affection was a dusty dead place of deadness?

True dat. Different usernames and no real names is the rule if you don't wanna get stalked. Don't forget no photos, too - with Google reverse image search or TinEye, working out who someone is from just a picture is easy.

Or, rather, don't use the same photo in different places.

That only provides protection for a very limited time, there's already good face recognition software being used by Facebook and similar sites, and it's only a matter of time before it's built into reverse image search services.

And definitely if you're posting on controversial topics on some boards - keep personal details as far away from and unlinked as you can.

I always do research on people I get to know.

There simply are people that are not to be trusted, and I actually think being an aspie attracts those people even more. Those people can feel your weaknesses and exploit them in a cunning way. I also think business people and companies usually do research on companies and people they might do business with.

But it's better to never tell these people about your research, they can experience it as a breach of trust. Keep it to yourself, or use it to your advantage. You may find out something about that person that you can use to get closer to that person.

I have got to admit when I thought that a guy was watching me it was kind of comforting in a weird way. Like he was watching over me. Then I got creepy and stalking and it went crazy after that. Congrats on the new friend hope everything works for you.
