i think i had the wrong idea. i thought "on the hook" meant someone was lured in, kind of. so the person is hopping around and waiting on a person pretty much. like if a person wants expensive presents they keep a partner "on the hook" by playing with their feelings and making them try really hard, while they sit back and reel them in....

THAT is it. You've pinpointed the meaning. That seriously made me "lol." ;)

I'm picturing some person being drug around by a fishing rod because they're "hooked on"... Now every time I hear this phrase, I'm going to have that mental image. Thanks a lot!

As usual, you hit the nail on the head. Essentially it is leading them on. Except what I wanted from him, I had given him and had no pricetag.

oh god, sorry to hear that. i think it's beautiful that you gave freely of yourself, even without getting what you wanted in return. you must be a giving soul. i am sorry it didn't work out properly this time.

Thank you for your kind words. Love is a gift you give yourself. Despite his motives, I don't regret it. It had been a long time since I had loved anyone. I had begun to wonder if I was capable. It will probably be a long time again. A little wiser this time however.

On the hook has a couple of meanings.

It means that someone is responsible for something-as mentioned in the earlier post

Quote:

this^^ too

and it means that someone is being controlled by something/someone-which is along the lines of some of the other posts. Just think of a fish on a hook being led around by a fisherman.

When I 1st saw that phrase mentioned in this thread I immanently thought that it meant someone was really interested in the other. This is a dating section thou & the phrase "there's plenty of fish in the sea" & the site Plenty Of Fish have been mentioned here a lot so I interpreted it with the fishing analogy with dating
