Not to be a wise-ass, but look in the mirror - if you think you are attractive, you probably are (and others will think so too).

If you don't like what you see, fixed what can be fixed until you do.

interesting question. people are not actually very good at determining this, apparently. they consistently rate themselves "above average" which can't be accurate for obvious reasons. if most people are above average, then that must actually be... average.

but ultimately it's kind of irrelevant, because the important part is how you feel inside and also how others respond to you - both of which are usually based on more than just the basic physical appearance.

Thank you for the article, but it concluded that people are matched based on attractiveness and one mechanism for this is having relationships and courting others. I guess most of us have some idea of where we fall intuitively, it's just a matter to putting it to the test.

we aren't really correct in our assumptions though, because people are not really capable of being subjective about their appearance.

If I measured my body's proportions and found out that most of them followed the Golden Ratio, and that on my right side they were the same as on my left side, would that make me objectively handsome?

Nah, it's easier to post a picture~

At the price of sounding controversial, try to think what you find attractive in your own sex. Most people have a degree of same-sex attraction.

If you really can't tell, this could be a good way to do it. Even straight males can see what features would be considered attractive. So maybe compare yourself to other men that are widely seen as attractive and see how you compare. If you are still not sure then also consider how many times you have been complimented on your appearance throughout your life.

I think men are genetically programmed to see that masculinity, symmetry and so on are "good traits" in fellow men as well. With that being said, male beauty standards are changing all the time. 50 years ago, Justin Bieber would be seen as some kind of modern day eunuch, whereas today, girls love him.

If you want to maximize your looks, find out what Hollywood celebrities with similar facial features do to look good.

Don't worry. Their estimate of male beauty is a guy with a high forehead and dented cheeks. As for the woman thing, that's not my preference. I can't remember finding any woman with large lips attractive at any point in my life. Hourglass figures aren't everything either, and longer legs aren't a requirement. Thinner eyebrows, a slim and curvy general shape and bigger eyes are attractive. Imagine his eyebrows on a woman.

Aww, it's Father Ted! Hello, Father Ted!! !

Meh, I don't know how to tell whether I'm attractive because standards of beauty are confusing. I see plenty of women attracting hordes of drooling guys, even though they don't appear to meet any of the standards that are generally listed for attractiveness. Does anyone else notice this?

i often feel this way about common "hot" women.

EDIT:
ill add this. what i often find breathtaking is not what most men seem to lust for. Itsalso not often i see a breathtaking woman, saw one today as the first in over 2 weeks. It could either be my personal preferences compared to normal or something else the reason i dont see them often

yeah, i call it charisma, mostly. i remember a girl like that in high school. she always had hordes of guys around her (ok, not really "hordes"... more like "a few") and i used to wonder what was special about her compared to other girls. she was dynamic and bouncy, always laughing and joking and having fun. she was like a magnet for male attention.
